Davis Signs Calif. Domestic Partner Law
SAN FRANCISCO -- California has became the first state to require businesses with large state contracts to offer domestic partners the same benefits that spouses enjoy, although the law will not take effect until 2007.

Outgoing Gov. Gray Davis signed the bill enacting the measure, which had been a key goal of gay rights groups.

Geoff Kors, executive director of Equality California, called the move "incredibly significant."

"There are a lot of businesses that want state contracts, and in order to be eligible, companies will now have to give equal benefits," Kors said.

13. He Will... He's NOT Gay Friendly. I Wish Everyone Would WAKE UP...
... and stop saying that he is. He ISN'T.

Lip service and vague generalities are all he offers. Platitudes. No substance.

He'll overturn every advancement for queer Californians as soon as he gets a chance. Dreier will help him.

3. Interesting. Looks as if Davis is challenging Ah-nult to put his
money where his big mouth is. Schwarzenegger claims to be for gay rights, and he may actually be, I don't know. But since he will probably dance to whatever tune the BFEE calls, he'll have to undo the legislation somehow. That'll really piss people off, and then the 'Total Recall' will begin in earnest.

4. Good, good, good!
I am very pleased about this. I am also pleased that the new guy is silent about this. It's a good indication that he won't be actively opposing this agenda. That's a lot better than it could be. We will see...

9. Careful, Arnold is not so pro-gay
In the SF Chronicle a day or so before the recall, it said that he supports gay rights but wouldn't have signed AB205. It was in a chart comparing the candidates on the issues.

Believe it or not, I am sad to see Davis go. I didn't think he was as bad some people thought. As the Chronicle says today, he is considered one of the most pro-gay governors in the US, and now we have someone who just seems live-and-let-live on the issue. Don't be surprised if he eventually throws some homophobic bones to the fundy religious insane.
