U.S. Appears to Win Global Warming Debate
U.S. Appears to Win Global Warming Debate
By THOMAS WAGNER, Associated Press Writer

Friday, July 8, 2005

(07-08) 07:53 PDT GLENEAGLES, Scotland (AP) --

Leaders of the world's wealthy nations appeared to bow to U.S. pressure on climate change, issuing a watered-down declaration Friday that avoids setting targets or timetables for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

But in his final speech at the G-8 summit, Prime Minister Tony Blair announced that the G-8 countries and five of the world's largest emerging economies — China, Brazil, India, Mexico and South Africa — had agreed to work together to counter global warming.

He said they would meet Nov. 1 in Britain to discuss the effort to "slow down and then in time reverse the rise in harmful greenhouse gas emissions."

Blair later said climate change could not be tackled without proper support from America, China, and India.

1. No...sadly
it just means we'll have to do it without you. I'm currently trying to persuade other Canadians of the need for a export duty on resources to non-Kyoto countries to help cover the costs of Kyoto and cross border pollution.

I've given up-
there's no way in hell that this country, with the intellect and intelligence level of the majority of it's population is EVER going to change it's tune in ANY of our lifetimes.

SO-
i can either choose to spend the rest of my life fighting hopelesly against the tide- constantly frustrated, disgusted, frightened, ashamed and filled with despair...

OR-
i can go with the flow, get comfy, watch the horrors unfold, and enjoy the show- as the hurricanes that chew up florida and the rest of the southern trash get bigger and BIGGER and WAY FUCKING BIGGER into HYPER-CANES- i'll get to sit in air-conditioned comfort and LAUGH MY ASS off at the misfortune of Bush voters and enablers.

IF-
i'm REAL LUCKY, i'll be able to say "i told you so" to some conservative fuckwads before i pass away.

life IS sweet.
drink it up.

4. What a bizarre headline for that story
No one is the winner here. How about "The health of the planet loses due to the overwhelming political power of wealthy American corporations and their undue influence on the Bush administration."

A sad day indeed.

27. Yeah -- and we (we = Georgia) just had Tropical Storm Cindy blow
thru and it did $40 million damage to Peachtree Raceway, which is a big deal to NASCAR (I think) folks. Cindy spawned one or more tornadoes here, and it just took a bunch of great big ole bites out of the raceway and a pricey neighborhood or two near there in Henry County, GA, south of Atlanta.

We got 5" rain over the 2-day period. AND one weather broadcaster said we could get another 5" from Dennis starting Sunday, depending on its track. So, it's not just the actual coastline that can suffer -- tho in no way am I trying to diminish what the coast goes through, but rather just point out that there is extended damage usually involved.

Another weather broadcaster said Dennis is as big as TX, OK, LA and MS combined. That's big.

25. It's not me or my spouse that'll be screwed, it's our grandchildren.

We're in our sixties so we have a few years left, but we are not going to be around when the real suffering begins. But our grandkids will be entering their most productive years when things get really tough.

I think I'm going to start teaching them gun handling and marksmanship shortly. It's somehting they will truly need shortly, because the first thing to disintegrate will be the rule of law just like it has in our government. They will need to know how to protect themselves cause no one else will. The only police you'll see on the streets then will be vigilantees.

What a sad thing to realize that my grandchildren will likely be among the last of the human race. And all because of Mad George. I have taken to using the term "Mad George" because only the insane would continue to push for policies that are guaranteed to destroy the environment that is required for humanity to live. The survivors of the coming disaster (the few of them that do survive) will take the name of bush as the worst curse that anyone could use, as in: "Bush You and the horse you rode in on". If anyone remembers what a horse was by that time.
