Some 1st Armored Division units could deploy to Iraq sooner than expected
http://www.estripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=29904

Major units within the 1st Armored Division could be headed to Iraq earlier than expected.

In January, soldiers received an official e-mail from 1st AD headquarters telling them to expect to deploy between Nov. 1, 2005 and January 2006.

But 1st AD spokesman Maj. Michael Indovina said Tuesday that the 2nd Brigade Combat Team from Baumholder, Germany, now expects to deploy “in the fall,” which he described as anytime between September and November. That could be up to two months earlier than previously reported.

However V Corps officials say the news should come as no surprise to the troops.

1. Wait wait wait... isn't that the unit Mayor Daley has a son in?
People were calling it the 1st Panzer something on another thread (bad smear btw).

Wondering what Daley knew and when given how he bit Durbin's head off earlier today.

5. Amazing, I didn't know Baumholder had any troops left who aren't
already in Iraq! I have friends living in Baumholder, went to high school there. The wife says it's been a ghost town Army post since the invasion began...

This mess will never be over, thanks to the BFEE. Our nephew just returned from his second tour over there about 2 months ago and goes back for a third this month. When will they send relatives of GWB???

Not as long as the corporate contracts flow like cheap wine:

'Private Warriors' is a PBS documentary that aired tonight that shines light on what is going on in Iraq, and to whose pockets our billions are disappearing into. I highly recommend that everybody watch it. This thread has a pretty good discussion that will give you an idea of what to expect from the documentary.

7. This would be the 2 in our family = 2nd deployments to Iraq
This is not news for us, both our loved ones, 1st Armored, got Orders for 2nd deployments along with Stop Loss orders back in January 2005.

approximately 10,000 in 1st Armored. For many will be 2nd deployments, and for new recruits will be 1st deployment.

I've been actively speaking out and trying to call attention to it since learned of it in January. I'm a member family of MFSO.

The problem for our 2 loved ones is that their re-enlistment came up in March 05. Situation; Already under orders for 2nd deployment and already Stop Lossed before re-enlistment time (another 'device' employed by military to keep up retention). Choices; 1) Don't re-enlist but you're going to Iraq anyway under Stop Loss where we can keep you as long as we want. 2) Re-enlist since you are already Stop Lossed + you'll get the bonus + we'll hold out a glimmer of hope that you can get a new PCS (assigned duty station).

Entrappment. As I said in speech I gave in March 05 on 2nd anniversary of war in Iraq at Cost of War rally in Seattle; Once these kids are in, they can't get out; they are trapped.

8. We need to get this Stop Loss crap better publicity
That's the only thing keeping the President Cuckoo Bananas and the Repukes from having to have a draft!

I'm sensing more people are getting behind the idea it's time the Young Repukes and Bush Voters enlisted or have their kids enlisted and for the 101st Fighting Keyboardists to put up or shut up!

A Pentagon release in February listed Europe-based units that would deploy to Iraq, Afghanistan or Africa between April and January 2006. However, no 1st AD units were on that list.

Another unit not on the list, the 1st Military Intelligence Battalion from Wiesbaden, left for Iraq last week.

The unit left “early,” Patton said, because they had been home for 10 months, not the full year most units get after a deployment.

12. Withdrawal means Deployment
This has nothing to do with
THE ARMY'S ENLISTMENT FIGURES, fighting a civil war, or any other newspeak
from the army that just got a list together for teens.

15. All of this chatter is the lead-in to the invasion of Iran...I bet that...
...US special ops are already on the ground in Iran, just like they led the advance wave into both Afghanistan and Iraq.

17. My guess would be that we are going to use airstrikes against Iran
and the ground forces would be for reinforcements should the Iranians retaliate by going into Iraq. As for a US invasion of Iran, we don't have the troops for the invasion or for the occupation afterwards. That is, unless they greet with roses and candy. :eyes:
