GOP Senator Wants White House Climate Deal
WASHINGTON - A leading Republican senator, trying to shepherd a broad energy bill through the Senate, is urging the White House and other GOP senators to support a compromise proposal on global warming, including mandatory curbs on climate-changing pollution.

Sen. Pete Domenici (news, bio, voting record), R-N.M., met Friday with Vice President Dick Cheney to discuss the climate issue, which will be the focus next week when the Senate resumes work on the energy bill.

Domenici is prepared to co-sponsor a provision that calls for a mandatory 2.4 percent annual reduction in the growth of so-called greenhouse gas emissions if he becomes convinced it will not scuttle a broad energy bill, a Domenici aide said Friday.

But the aide, Alex Flint, emphasized that Domenici won't support the provision, being pushed by Sen. Jeff Bingaman (news, bio, voting record), D-N.M., if it would torpedo the overall energy legislation by generating strong White House opposition or a potentially successful filibuster by opponents.

3. Yes, it is nice to see them break ranks.
Bush's vote getting influence, in the 2006 elections, is practically nil and Republicans grow more confident going around him. I'd like to see him impeached, but could be content with him contracting a virulent form of lameduckitis.

4. I want a climate deal, too!
I want the US to either stand down its entire fleet of Chemtrail-generating aircraft or TELL us what the fuck is REALLY going on in the sky. "Persistent Contrails," my Shiny Metal Ass!

8. It ain't much
If I'm reading this correctly, it's a 2.4 reduction in the GROWTH of greenhouse gases. So if GGs were set to increase, say 1 million tons in 2006 over 2005 levels, this measure would still allow GGs to increase 976,000 tons over the current level. Somebody please tell me I'm wrong.
