The complexity of the politics is beyond the people who live there, how could we understand...other than to know things are never as they seem, agreements are never final, say yes means nothing, saying no may mean something. We're in over our head. Iraq was so volatile that it required a military dictatorship, not with torture or the other obscenities of Saddam. It's just a witches cauldron of seething hatred and distrust. Iraq was created by the British for their purposes, not by the people there.

Decisions, including this one by the NDC, are being forced by personnel in the Green Zone in an effort to salvage some self-respect for THEMSELVES, where none exist. Let the Iraqis make their own decisions without Washington's orders, which can't happen until Washington leaves Baghdad.

I think Aristotle referred to it as "appeal to total fucking stupidity" to say, we shouldn't have gone but now that we're there, we have to clean up what we did. Well it's a mess because we're there, therefore, how does staying "clean up the mess?" I liked Kerry and worked hard for him and I love my party but they have to move beyond this drivel.
