Rachael Strong said she was 18 and "too scared to resist" a marriage to a polygamist in his 60s who scheduled nights with his 17 wives on a calendar and ordered them to use birth control.

3. Because the huge majority of polygamy ISN'T consensual

It's little girls who are forced to marry men old enough to be their fathers and grandfathers. They are told if they don't, they go to hell. They are brainwashed, beaten, etc. into this. Then, by the time they are 18, they are either too indoctrinated or scared to attempt to leave. It is very hard for a women with children to simply leave a cult. Because this is a cult.

Raping girls 12-16 years of age doe not constitute "consensual polygamy." It gets even creepier when that little girl is your stepdaughter, niece, etc. Real consensual polygamy is extremely few and far between, if it really exists at all.

It is disgusting that THIS isn't what the Fundies and Bush are concentrating on eradicating in this country, instead of REAL consensual relationships.

I'm not against polygamy per se. There are many polygamous societies on this planet, and many of them are reasonably healthy. But this crackpot shit practiced by the FLDS wackos is almost always abusive. These people would still be fucked up and abusive even if they weren't polygamists. Quite frankly, I don't give a damn who marries who. Santorum is worried about people marrying dogs? I say fuck it - if you want to marry a dog, go right ahead.
