Governor dismisses protest at Santa Monica college

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, responding publicly for the first time to the protesters who heckled him at a commencement speech, said he believes most students were attentive and appreciated his words.


Schwarzenegger dismissed the jeers and catcalls he endured during his speech Tuesday to about 600 graduates at Santa Monica College, telling Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly that the protesters were inspired by unions who oppose his November special election.


"It was very clear that there was a difference between the students who very much appreciated my speech, and they were sitting there and giving me a standing ovation, and then 100 people in the background, all the way up to the right of the bleachers. They were organized by the public employees' union," Schwarzenegger said Thursday on O'Reilly's show.


"So these were all union people that were organizing this demonstration," he said. "It is not the ordinary people out there. It was not the students that were protesting. The students had great respect and they enjoyed my speech."

In the latest such call, a few days ago, Schwarzenegger's media expert, Don Sipple, outlined a strategy "based on a lot of polling" to create a "phenomenon of anger" among voters toward public employee unions. Firefighters, police officers, teachers and other state-paid workers have become the governor's harshest critics this year.

"The process is like peeling an onion," Sipple said, describing a multi-step plan for persuading voters that public-worker unions are "motivated by economic self-interest" instead of "doing the best job for the state."

He also said: "When you get to the point of … 'These people are on your payroll and they are out to roll you every day,' that creates a kind of phenomenon of anger. But it takes a long time to get there…. As the campaign goes on, we have to articulate that."

that explained their current strategy.

He keeps stating - not just union, but "Public employee's Union".

Their strategy is to try to turn the public against public employees... his strategists words were something like getting the public to feel that "they (teachers, firemen, policemen, etc.) are on you're pay roll... and they try to roll you every day."

Watch his words - and point it out to folks - get folks savvy as they try to do this - and fewer folks will fall for it.
