attempt of translation

The reelection of the 62 years old by the 35 member passed, after a delay for hours caused by the japanese delegation, unison.

The US abandonned their resistance against the reelection of the Egyptian Diplomat last week and opened the way to the confirmation of El Baradei.

How come we knew this so many months in advance over here? Welcome (back) El Baradei.

1. Darf ich mal Übersetzung bieten? :-)
The governing council of the Intl Atomic Energy Agency has confirmed General Director Mohammed el-Baradei in office for an additional 4-year period.

The re-election of the 62-year-old by the 35 member nations came unanimously after a number of delays by the Japanese delegation.

The USA abandoned their opposition to the re-election of the Egyptian diplomat just last week, thus opening the way to El-Baradei's confirmation.

2. Appears as if Rice did one of her typical threats
After failing to win the support of its allies, however, America yesterday effectively abandoned its campaign when Condoleezza Rice, the secretary of state, received him in Washington to discuss his "vision" for the IAEA.

She said "we have worked well with Dr El Baradei in the past", but made clear that America expected him to toughen his stance on Iran over its nuclear ambitions.

At least with El Baradei the IAEA will not be the total doormat BushCo wishes it would be.
