Clinton addresses insurance convention
Former President Bill Clinton told a health insurance convention in Las Vegas this morning that in this "more interdependent world ... we need more friends and fewer enemies."

Although Clinton did not mention President George W. Bush or the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, he told a standing-room only crowd of 2,200 attending America's Health Insurance Plans at the Venetian that there is a better way to win the hearts of our potential enemies.

Clinton, who along with Bush's father, former president George Bush, led tsunami relief efforts in predominantly Muslim Indonesia, said "we did not have to kill anybody... we just had to show up ... as human beings to help other human beings."

"The world is more interdependent than in any other time in history," Clinton said, noting that means "we can't escape each other."

2. Clinton often speaks before groups now that aren't pro-Dem
he was the keynote speaker at the Chamber of Commerce dinner in county last month; it's really conservative here in Lancaster County, but the tickets sold out in no time.

3. I wouldn't call insurance socialistic in nature
since actuaries try fairly hard to charge you a price equal to your not other people's risk.

The for profit part is true enough, but nothing says that insurance cannot be non-profit with premiums covering only the operating expenses of the program.

6. I think they're greedy SOBs
those Insurance crooks. But, good for Clinton! And good to hear he's selling out in conservative areas. Hmmm. Maybe every last DEM in the area is desperate for positive Dem vibes as a reminder of ancient times in the US of A when we were a (real) beacon of peace and goodwill in the world.
