Taft at a loss on losses. Governor not sure why
he wasn't told about investing problems

:spray:

Maybe Bob, it's because you're a lying sack of shit!!

Link requires subscription, but I will try to find a link that doesn't.

http://www.dispatch.com/news-story.php?story=dispatch/2005/06/10/20050610-A1-00.html&chck=t

Buffeted by a scandal at the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, Gov. Bob Taft said yesterday his staff wrongly kept him in the dark about a $215 million investment loss at the bureau last year.

In his first public comments about a second major loss of funds for injured workers, Taft couldn’t explain why he wasn’t told about the magnitude of the shortfall until this week, and he said he’s still looking for answers at the bureau.

:wtf:

The governor said he was surprised by continual revelations about investment problems, and that although he’s not aware of any other issues, "that doesn’t mean there won’t be more problems that arise." (bolding is mine)

Taft, who initially defended the investment with Noe, said he was not informed about the magnitude of the MDL loss until this week — despite the fact a memo detailing the loss was sent to Taft’s staff Oct. 26.

The memo, sent by e-mail by former Administrator James Conrad to James Samuel, Taft’s executive assistant for business and industry, was received but never forwarded, Taft said.

Sure Bob :eyes: That's what I always say at work when the shit hits the fan.

"I.....Didn't.....Get.....The.....Memo"

Yeah right. "Effing" liars.

Will the Republicans attack me if maxrandb says "the Republicans are all a bunch of backstabbing, lying, ASS PICKLES".

1. Standard Repub excuse, "Didn't see the memo". Wasn't that one
used by Rice and Bush in ref to pre-9/11 warnings?

2. B-E-A utiful Post
You're absolutely right, except I think with Rice and Bush it was more like

"we didn't understand what it meant when we read 'Osama Bin Laden is intent on attacking America in a dramatic fashion, including highjacking and flying planes into large buildings'"

It all depends on what the definition of the word "is" is.

4. the thugs use their excuse that they need their people to fill important
positions (Bolton comes to mind) and yet they fill those positions with incompetent f-ups. They need to take responsibility for the staff that they choose!

5. He indicted himself of incompetency
He said he knew nothing about what was going on. That is his job. He said openly he was not doing his job and the state lost a quarter of a billion dollars. The buck stops with him as it is his job to know how the monies are being applied. Either through corruption or incompetence a quarter of a billion dollars is gone. Either way Polk should be recalled and quite possibly jailed for embezzlement. How much of that quarter billion ended up in Bush*'s campaign chest?

8. Hey Bob.. how 'bout taking some 'personal responsibility'?
If it's good enough for a single Mom who's down on her luck, it oughtta be good enough for the GUY IN CHARGE OF THE WHOLE state..and who ASKED for the job..and WILLINGLY took it on..:)

Do ANY of these guys ever accept responsibility??? for ANYTHING???

So Mr. Taft, are you a bad liar or just colossally incompetent?
Either way, it doesn't bode well for your qualifications as the chief executive of a large state to be so far out of the loop. I know it works for Chimpy, and because he has an enormous staff as well as a media payroll miles long, it looks so easy to be so incompetent and not have anyone raise an eyebrow, but he's a special case. In real life? Euhh, not so easy.

Resign now, Mr. Taft. Ohio will be better off without your public service.

13. The good news is he can't run again
Good for HIM--his popularity was down to 19% before this mess broke...

Actually, I'm inclined to believe he wasn't told; he's not really in charge, it was just his turn to be in the office...(I know, pathetic!)

15. We Need More People From the Sean Hannity Grade School
Debate Team.

Excellent Question Grtuitous: "So, Mr. Taft, are you a bad liar or just colossally incompetent?"

"Tell me Gov Taft, exactly when did you stop beating your wife?"

I never beat..

"Answer the Question Mr Taft. I didn't ask if you ever beat your wife, I asked when you "stopped" beating her"

Well....I....

"Let me phrase it another way. Did you slap her or use a closed fist"

Now I guess some people on here will flame me for being "mean" to the Republicans. :eyes:

9. I was out of the loop and didn't get the memo
Just like Cheney didn't get Amb. Wilson's report. Just like bush had never met Ken Lay. Must have been out of the loop just like his daddy. Just like a republican to lie, stonewall AND THE LIBERAL MEDIA LETS THEM!

I was loopless! Memoless! Clueless! Don't hold me accountable! I'm a Republican!

14. Reminds me of Belushi in "The Blues Brothers"
Jake: Oh please don't kill us. Please, please don't kill us. You know I love ya baby, I wouldn't leave ya. It wasn't my fault.

Women: You miserable slug. You think you can talk you're way out of this? You betrayed me.

Jake: No, I didn't. Honest. I ran outta gas. I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from outta town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake, a terrible flood, locust's. It wasn't my fault!! I swear to God!!

10. Bob Taft needs
remedial education. He should never have held a position of responsibility anywhere.

On the other hand, this is gonna be fun to watch...

12. Someone posted something about this yesterday with a big picture
See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. It was in response to a quote from an article involving this scandal saying one had never seen another, a different one was never told, and a third didn't say anything.

Are there any powerful Republicans who don't seem to have their hands in a lot of dubious pies?
