WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Under pressure to stabilize Iraq (news - web sites), President Bush (news - web sites) said on Monday he had ordered a major reorganization of U.S. efforts to bring control to that country, headed by national security adviser Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites).

The effort, given the name "Iraq Stabilization Group," gives Rice a more direct role over the situation in Iraq, but aides insisted the authority of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was not diminished.

Rice, who is already Bush's point person on the Middle East, will be in charge of a group that includes representatives from the State Department, Defense and Treasury.

The group will coordinate U.S. efforts in four areas in regards to Iraq as well as Afghanistan (news - web sites): counterterrorism, economic issues, political institutions and communications.

"This group formed, within the National Security Council, is aimed at the coordination of interagency efforts as well as providing a support group for the Department of Defense and Jerry Bremer," Bush said during a joint news conference with visiting Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki.

1. Hmm, Let's See
Doesn't this sound like a way to further distance the State Department from the decision making process.

"Rice, who is already Bush's point person on the Middle East, will be in charge of a group that includes representatives from the State Department, Defense and Treasury."

and

"The effort, given the name "Iraq Stabilization Group," gives Rice a more direct role over the situation in Iraq, but aides insisted the authority of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was not diminished."

Maybe what has really happened is that Powell has capitulated completely.

2. And as soon as she's done reorganizing Iraq,

Condisleeza's next project is rearranging deck chairs on a ship named Titanic.

3. Does this mean...
they won't be needing the Pentagon, CIA, FBI, etc. anymore? I guess they can handle it all by themselves. Those pesky ancillary agents are just nothing but trouble anyway, aren't they BuschCo?

4. What organization did Rice ever successfully run?
Shit, she never even heard of Kamakazi fighters! "Never imagined using an airplane as a weapon!" - actual quote about 9/11! Smoke and mirrors! Shuffling around the same piles of shit leaves you with..... the same piles of shit!
