Christian activist group
goes after Ford Motor Co.
---------------------------
By Alex Johnson Reporter
MSNBC Updated: 7:10 p.m. ET May 31, 2005
---------------------------
A week after they declared victory over Walt Disney Co., Christian activists have fired another missile in their long war against companies they think are destroying traditional American values.

The target this time is Ford Motor Co., which Christians should boycott as “the company which has done the most to affirm and promote the homosexual lifestyle,” the American Family Association says on a Web site it put up Monday, boycottford.com.

The AFA, the nonprofit group run by the Rev. Donald Wildmon, criticized Ford for donating money to gay-rights organizations (Ford promises to give up to $1,000 to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination for every Jaguar and Land Rover it sells to gays and lesbians), sponsoring gay pride celebrations, advertising in gay-oriented publications and “redefining the definition of the family to include homosexual marriage,” Randy Sharp, the organization’s director of special projects, said in an interview Tuesday.

Officials at Ford did not return telephone calls seeking comment.

41. What victory are they talking about over Disney
From what I heard a month or two ago, the Disney parks had a pretty good year. Disney films may be a different story but I'd think that had more to do with them sucking vs. the AFA boycot.

both run like new - I was considering donating the Taurus to a charity and finding a newer ride - probably a Subaru, but not now. The Taurus has 150 K on it and the Contour has 130 K and neither has ever used one drop of oil or failed to start. The Taurus also has one of those Darwin fishes on it, just in case these buttholes had any doubts.

14. First of all
This is not a Christian group. This is just another hate group. So therefore, the headline is wrong. And I drive a Ford, am straight, and will continue to drive Fords as I believe they make pretty good vehicles. I doubt that this will make much of a dent in Ford Motor Companies policies or sales. Unless, of course, the big media makes a huge deal out of this, which is always a possibility.

31. loved this part
I didn't question the Lord when He struck down my beloved wife Emily with cervical cancer," Gurshner said. "I didn't question Him when I was dismissed from my job and put on Social Security. I didn't question Him when He commanded me to dig a three-foot ditch around my house and fill it with charcoal briquettes, and I don't question him now. I, James Harold Gurshner, will kidnap the Ford CEO, as that is the will of the Lord."

3 foot ditch w/ charcoal
I guess the lord does work in mysterious ways.

35. None of the Upcoming Toyota SUVs Can Beat it for Mileage
Toyota is/will be building hybrid SUVs, but they get poorer mileage than the Ford.
This is because Toyota has targetted the $$$'ier end of the SUV market
with the Lexu$ 400h (same size but heavier and with a 6-cyl engine,
and a Lexu$ price),
and the Highlander Hybrid, which is a 7-passenger SUV and considerably
more thirsty.

If Toyota made a hybrid version of the Rav-4, it would probably get
over 40 mpg, but it wouldn't be as profitable for them as going after
the larger/luxury end of the market, where (fueled by all the Prius buzz)
they already have long waiting lists.

No waiting list for the Ford, because hardly anybody knows about it.

I love mine! I only hit 1200 miles on the odo today. 34 mpg in my AWD Escape Hybrid... hee hee.

I wrote Ford today to let them know that I bought my Escape BECAUSE they were leading the way in so many respects.

Their inclusion policies.
Their decision to releae a hybrid SUV
Their research in recycling paint fumes for use in fuel cells
The Rouge plant in general, with all of the enviro-friendly designs.

Edit: Thanks to Andy, I am able to post the pic.

37. victory over Walt Disney Co???

from the article:

Most recently, the AFA ended a nine-year boycott of the Walt Disney Co., which it launched because of what it felt was the company’s “attitude, arrogance and embrace of the homosexual lifestyle.”

The AFA said it was moving on because “we have made our point.” Disney said it never changed any of its policies, but Sharp pointed to an executive shuffle and the sale of Disney’s Miramax studio, which seemed to specialize in films designed to get Wildmon’s goat, notably “Kids,” “Priest” and “Dogma.”

If that's what they consider to be "victory", it's no wonder the Homosexual agenda is winning!

For over 10 years, Ford put up with a total boycott of Ford Motor Co. in most of the Arab world. That boycott was called by another bunch of religious fanatics, the Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia.

During the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Henry Ford II heard that Israel had a truck shortage. He ordered entire planeloads of Ford trucks shipped to Israel immediately. That caused the Saudis to put Ford on their boycott list, along with McDonald's (because the Kroc family was Jewish) and Coca-Cola (bottling plants in Israel).

That boycott had just been lifted when I went to Saudi Arabia in 1989. The Lincoln Town Car was becoming one of the most popular cars among Saudi elites. A popular fad was re-upholstering the Lincoln in Islamic Green velour, trimmed with the Saudi coat-of-arms in gold.

Very tasteful...

Dear Mark,

Thank you for contacting the Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center.

Ford Motor Company values diversity among all of its constituents. The Company prides itself on strong and clear values - respect for our customers, communities, employees, suppliers and dealers; acceptance of our differences; inclusion of different people with different perspectives; and integrity to always do the right thing. Ford values all people - regardless of their race, religion, gender, sexual orientation and cultural or physical differences. And we are glad to see that this spirit of inclusion is evident in the practices of other automakers that do business in this country as well. It is one of the things that make us proud to be part of the auto industry.
