A whistle-blower's wish (Coleen Rowley will run as a Dem for MN 2nd Dist)
Edited on Mon May-30-05 02:41 PM by Pirate Smile
By MAGGIE SIEGER -- The FBI's most famous whistle-blower wants to go to Capitol Hill. Coleen Rowley, who retired last December three years after exposing the agency's investigative lapses before 9/11, tells TIME she's laying out a campaign strategy for a run at Minnesota's Second Congressional District seat.

She'll meet this week with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in Washington to discuss how much money it can contribute to the $2 million war chest she expects she'll need in an effort to unseat Republican John Kline.

Though Rowley, 50, would start as a distinct underdog in the heavily Republican district (Kline won a second term last year with 56% of the vote), Steven Schier, political science professor at Carleton College, says Rowley might surprise people.

"She'll attract a lot of money because she'll be seen as a credible candidate due to her FBI background," he says. "She's fairly conservative for a Democrat, and that makes sense in this district. But it will be a very tough race."

2. Cool! It's tempting to move over to the Second District
just to be able to vote for her (and squish that slug Kline).

4. If the district doesn't use ES&S scanners, she stands a chance.
But I think ES&S scanners are the DRE of choice in MN and that was probably why Mondale lost in 02. Since this is a Republican district, it's highly likely they use ES&S. The vote count won't be audited of course and these scanners are probably the main reason Bush is in the White House right now. I don't know what kind of central tabulators they use.

These are the only questions that really matter nowadays in any race anywhere in the country.

5. Thank You!
I live in the second district, and am currently "represented" by John Kline, a fascist Bush/DeLay Yes Man. I can't wait to watch Rowley crush him in the debates, we desperately need new blood in congress here.

7. I hope she can help Sibel Edmonds and other whistleblowers...
Given she's a member of Sibel's Whistleblower organization now.

That would be an immense help to get those facts out before the public. Though I'd hate to wait until 2006. Perhaps if Sibel can get her story out sooner somehow, it might help Colleen get elected too!
