VATICAN: BISHOPS CONDEMN ITALIAN AID WORKER KIDNAPPING

(AGI) - Vatican, May 30 - Italian Bishops jointly condemn the "hideous kidnapping practices" which Italian citizens have fallen prey to and which "fortunately, in some cases, have later resulted in their being freed; unfortunately, in Giuliana Sgrena's case, her liberator was killed in the process of freeing her" said Italian Episcopal Conference Chairman, Cardinal Camillo Ruini. "More recently - Ruini added - we have been much distressed by the kidnapping of Clementina Cantoni, in Afghanistan, a country where terrorism has yet again reared its ugly head". "Italy - Ruini added -, throughout the Middle East, especially in Iraq, has paid a tribute in blood: think of Enzo Baldoni, Simone Cola and Nicola Calipari (as a result of a tragic friendly fire accident), sisters Jessica and Sabrina Rinaudo (in Egypt).
