Family says Hoopeston man was killed in Iraq
Associated Press

HOOPESTON, Ill. - An Illinois soldier who had been eagerly awaiting a September trip home for the birth of his first child was killed in Iraq this week, his family said Friday.

Pvt. Jeffrey Wallace, 20, of Hoopeston, died Tuesday after a roadside bomb exploded as his convoy was passing by, his sister Michelle Weber said. She said the family was waiting for more details from the military.

The U.S. Department of Defense had not publicly confirmed Wallace's death as of Friday.

1. Another "golden moment" bush
talked about in his speech at the Navel Academy.

2. Two questions: How can they continue to try and sell this war as something
glorious?

And:

How fucking stupid are the people who keep buying it?

3. Well It's like the man said
If you tell people something often enough they will begin to believe that it's true, and that's what Bush is hoping for.

Besides, he had a captive, possibly mostly brain washed, kool-aid drinking audience when he gave his speech this morning.

The people who keep buying this aren't stupid, they just can't bring themselves to say that it was the wrong thing to do. If they did then they would have to admit that they have as much innocent blood
on their hands as this administration does.

And very few people like to admit they were wrong.

4. Chicken Hawks who never went to war -- Glorify war
and yet we know that they did anything and everything possible to avoid war.

Now the chief chick hawk -- calls this a golden moment.

We of the Vietnam Generation know that this is a big fat lie.

War changes people forever -- and not always for the good.

I speak as a military brat -- and for those of us who have seen this side of the war -- we have seen unspeakable violence, and ruin -- we live with the aftermath of war -- the broken men and women who come home after doing horrible things to innocent civilians. We learn to hate what the troops DO -- but not the individual who go to war and obey orders.

14. Here's an article I
found on buzzflash regarding above statement of "signs of cracks in fortress"..

"THE JOURNAL BALKS
Wall Street Journal rebukes Republican Congress"

"The editorial (paid-restricted), which hammers Republicans for failing to produce anything of substance in the 2005 session of Congress, may be a troubling sign for Republicans, as the Journal's editorial page leans heavily to the right.

The Journal also recently turned on House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX), who has been mired in ethics scandals; while they noted that they believe DeLay has faced unfair criticism from Democrats, they said he was tainted with the odor of the Beltway.

"Americans have learned to expect little from Congress, and by that standard the 109th version controlled by Republicans has met expectations," the editorial begins. "On the other hand, anyone who hoped that the GOP would make something of its historic governing opportunity is bound to be disappointed so far."

6. We used to play Hoopeston in basketball
the Hoopeston Cornjerkers. I'm not making this up.
This is farm country. Central Illinois. Where you can watch your dog run away for three days. Flat prairie with few trees. But excellent farm land.
My brother's wife is from Hoopeston. I'm sure she knows the family. Everybody knows everybody.
This is when this "war" becomes more than just slogans, bumper stickers, and macho swaggering. This is when people start wondering what we're doing over there. And why. And which family will be next to lose a child. A husband. A father.
I can't imagine the pain this family is in tonight.
