Criminal investigation opened against Dan Doyle's wife
May 26, 2005
SALEM, Ore. - The Oregon Department of Justice has formally opened a criminal investigation into alleged campaign finance reporting irregularities made during Victoria Doyle's unsuccessful candidacy for the Marion County clerk's office in 2004.
Doyle is the wife of former Rep. Dan Doyle, R-Salem, who resigned his legislative seat in late January amid allegations that he misappropriated more than $64,000 in campaign donations. The Justice Department began a formal criminal investigation into his case last month.
Victoria Doyle, who is also a Republican, lost the most recent county clerk race to Democrat Bill Burgess. Among other duties, the county clerk is responsible for overseeing Marion County elections.
Doyle, who acted as her own campaign treasurer, is being investigated on a number of charges including allegedly signing false statements, said Kevin Neely, a spokesman for state Attorney General Hardy Myers.
