Gov. Bush OKs Fla. Abortion Disclosure
------------------------------
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Gov. Jeb Bush signed a bill Wednesday that requires physicians to tell Florida parents when a minor daughter seeks an abortion.

Bush signed a similar bill into law in 1999 but the courts blocked it, finding it violated the privacy provision in the Florida Constitution.

But voters last fall approved a constitutional amendment carving out an exception to the privacy guarantee so that the current abortion notice law would have a better chance of withstanding a court challenge.

The law applies to girls 17 and under who aren't married and don't already have children. Unless it's a medical emergency, doctors are required to notify a parent in person or by phone 48 hours before the abortion or, if that's not possible, by certified mail 72 hours in advance.

1. So, now doctors join the State Snitch Corps
in Florida. But only on important stuff, like desperate teenage girls who don't know their proper place - property of either their parents or their husbands. How long before somebody introduces a bill that their husbands have to be notified too? Anybody want to start a pool?

2. Husband had vasectomy
21 years ago. I had to sign a permission slip. I thought at the time that that was very stupid and told the doctor so. It's his body. Works both ways.

3. Some young girls would rather kill themselves than tell their parents.
Especially if the father is a blood relative, or maybe a "friend of the family." Way to go, Jebbie. Thanks for nothing. x(

4. What are boys' parents' notified about?
Why why why why is pregnancy and the termination of pregnancy SOLELY put on the shoulders of the woman (or girl)?

When will it be law that any boys, under the age of 17 who attempt to buy condoms, have THEIR Parents notified in person or by phone 48 hours before they're allowed to buy condoms, or if that's not possible, by certified mail 72 hours in advance?

When will boys/men have to undergo 24-48 hour waiting periods before they can buy condoms?

When will boys/men be forced to go from store to store in search of condoms because they were denied the right to buy them at another store because of the store owner's personal belief that contraception/pre-marital sex is 'immoral'?

What reproductive procedures will boys/men be FORCED to appear before a court before they can undergo OR notify their parents of? STD treatment? Taking antibiotics? testicular exams?

Strange. It takes 2 to have sex, two to produce a baby, yet only one is punished by the law for making a sensible choice regarding abortion.

6. If more boys and girls would buy condoms we would need less
abortions.

8. Same law passed here in OK just a couple weeks ago, being challenged
in federal court (not sure how or why) but the judge in the case is a good friend of mine even though he's a far-rightwing. We fight about
politics a lot and I emailed him an earful (or eyeful I guess)
concerning this case. He hasn't answered yet, if I don't hear something soon before his ruling, I might just "drop by" his house for a "visit"...
