US religious right sees Senate compromise on judges as 'betrayal'
The US religious right, a key constituency of President George W. Bush, is furious at the Republican Party for failing to use its Senate majority to impose conservative judges in a showdown with opposition Democrats.

Some leading activists say they feel betrayed by the compromise reached by the two parties in a deal that averted a major Senate battle.

..........

Many members of the Christian right voted for Bush in last November's presidential election because of the promise of securing a more conservative judiciary, according to experts. And there was a fiery religious reaction to the Senate deal.

"This Senate agreement represents a complete bailout and betrayal by a cabal of Republicans and a great victory for united Democrats," said James Dobson, head of Focus On The Family, a right wing Christian activist group.

"We share the disappointment, outrage and sense of abandonment felt by millions of conservative Americans who helped put Republicans in power last November. I am certain that these voters will remember both Democrats and Republicans who betrayed their trust."

I think it's the other way around ...
The Fundies are the frauds who have hijacked what used to be the Republican Party with all their blah-blah about morality and compassion and family values shit which is really nothing more than intolerant hate and fear mongering driving a cute little Red White and Blue SUV.

Either way, I concur with what a previous poster stated: May they all vote 3rd party in the next few elections.

... but that they've 'corrupted' the original intent of the greed crew. Real, true, old style Republicans don't give a shit about morality issues because aside from knowing they all live in glass houses, they're all about the Benjamins, as you state.

I think they thought they were making a smart move allowing the Fundie base to start dictating 'family friendly' platform in order to sway more voters, and the Fundies moved in for the kill.

Three get no fillibuster by the Great Compromise. The others are in a totally ambiguous state. What isn't ambiguous is that if we use the fillibuster it will get nuked. So what makes you think that any bush nominations wil be rejected? The votes of the RINO-7? All aye-aye on Owen.

8. Good!
Now we have to get the proper term for these people out into the public consciousness - dominionists.

Everyday, well-meaning, brainwashed conservative Christians are dupes for the dominionists who really want to run things, but most of them are probably unfamiliar with the word or its meaning.

Not content to practice their beliefs while allowing others the same right, the dominionists demand complete control of every aspect of society for believers and nonbelievers alike. A lot of people just don't realize this and would be horrified.

I tried to tell a few people about them two or three years ago and was laughed at. Those same people are getting a little nervous right now. It's time for an all-out educational assault to drive the point home.

From now on, I'm referring to the hard RW theocratic fundies by their true name - dominionists.

18. Religious right vows payback for brokers of filibuster pact
Religious right vows payback for brokers of filibuster pact

By Eric Gorski
Denver Post Staff Writer
DenverPost.com

This week's compromise over Senate filibusters greatly disappointed Focus on the Family and its allies, who believed November election victories would help fulfill their long-held wish for a conservative makeover of the federal judiciary.

But representatives from conservative Christian groups who made the filibuster their signature issue suggest a severe price might be paid by the 14 Democrats and Republicans who brokered the last-minute deal.

"Any of them who have White House aspirations should get used to living in the doghouse," said Jan LaRue, chief counsel of Concerned Women for America.

James C. Dobson, founder of the Colorado Springs-based Focus, urged supporters to flood the Senate switchboard with calls to do away with the filibuster.

"We share the disappointment, outrage and sense of abandonment felt by millions of conservative Americans who helped put Republicans in power last November," Dobson said in a statement. "I am certain that these voters will remember both Democrats and Republicans who betrayed their trust."

46. This is why the deal won't hold.
A couple of the seven will back out of the deal to avoid a challenge in the primaries. They need the fundie vote, especially in the primary. A little pressure will be applied, and an excuse will be found to break the deal. Now that the fundies have proof of who the traders are they won't be able to take the heat.

Among moderates, who pay little attention to politics, their backtrack (lie) about this issue will be forgotten. It will come down to the issues on hand right before the election. They lose almost not real votes by breaking the compromise.

This can only help Democrats. We won't lose any votes; we might just pick up some by people who are freaked out by this.

I hope these theocrats try to run someone here in Maine. Those wackos would scare/piss off most of the electorate here, giving us a chance to unseat Olympia. It would also mean they were devoting resources here in a losing cause rather than in another state where they might have a chance to win a primary challenge against a GOP incumbent.

And we have at least one challenger to Olympia now:

41. Their own people framed this as an absolute battle between good and evil
So now they're left with this:

Any compromise must be the WORK OF SATAN!

Anyone who compromised with the "Faithless Democrats" is helping the feminists to kill babies.

After all, this is a battle between Good and Evil; The Culture of Life and The Culture of Death; The Party of God and The Party of the Faithless; Jesus and Satan.

We need to keep telling them how betrayed they are.

And it's all because the corporate interests that paid them all that lobbying money are sick and tired of their important business legislation agenda taking a back seat to things like preserving marriage, protecting the unborn, and rebuking Satan.

No matter how pissed you are about the "compromise," remember this: The right-wing is much, MUCH more angry!

To us, it's about saving the country.

To them, it's about saving GOD!

Make sure you call and write and email and trumpet loudly to the right-wing: The Republicans sold your "Christian Values" down the river for a few pieces of silver from Enron and Halliburton.
