Military agreements signed in Philippines China defence talks
This story knocked my socks off this AM, since the Philippines is like an extension of the US in so many ways....
Also, Australia in free trade talks with China etc. etc.

Military agreements signed in Philippines China defence talks

The Philippines and China are holding their first annual defence and security dialogue.

The dialogue has already seen the signing of two major military agreements.

The Philippines and China have agreed to hold maritime and border patrol joint exercises in the future.

Visiting Chinese Defense Vice Minister Xiong Guangkai has met with Philippine Defense Secretary Avelino Cruz.

They have agreed to hold joint exercises between their militaries as a means of expanding their defence ties.

Both officials also witnessed the signing of an agreement which paves the way for China's donation of more than a
US$1 million worth of engineering equipment to the Philippines.

Our reporter, Shirley Escalante, says cooperation against drug and human smuggling, and terrorism are also being discussed.

Philippine military officials say they want to expand their relations with China because China is a major player in the region.

The Philippines is holding regular joint military exercises with the United States.
