Breaking: Hi Level Gov't Aide in Iraq just Assasinated!!
Edited on Mon May-23-05 01:33 AM by Pachamama
No name or any specific details at this moment...just came on my local news in the middle of the 11 o'clock news...

On Edit: Found on the BBC...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4570537.stm

"Ali Moussa, director-general of the ministry, was killed with his driver as they drove to work on Sunday.

The gunmen have not been identified but attacks blamed on Sunni insurgents have increased since the swearing-in of the country's Shia-dominated government.

More than a dozen top officials have died in recent months in Baghdad.

At least three people were also hurt in Sunday's attack." (more...)

On 2nd edit: OOPS! Guess that was another assasination that took place earlier....here is the um, recent assasination being reported (hard to keep track of)...

Guess that democracy and freedom on the march Bush-style is panning out great, eh? :eyes:

Aide to Iraqi Prime Minister's Cabinet Gunned Down in Baghdad
The Associated Press

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Two carloads of gunmen assassinated a top aide to Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari's Cabinet and his driver on Monday, police said.

Wael al-Rubaei and his driver were attacked in the main street in central Baghdad's Mansour district at about 8:15 a.m. as they were heading to work, said police Lt. Majid Zaki.

Zaki said two carloads of gunmen sprayed automatic weapon fire at al-Rubaei's vehicle, killing the official and his driver.

The slaying follows Sunday's killing of another senior government official, Trade Ministry auditing office chief Ali Moussa.

8. Move along, people. Nothing to see here
All is well. Don't pay any attention to those blood stains on the street.

Iraq is well on its way to a western-style democracy. The insurgents are just a bunch of former Saddam thugs and foreign fighters. No big deal. Fear not. Your government has the whole thing under control.

9. And why are we there?
They were never a threat to us. They clearly don't like us. Oh, Bush donors have never received higher profits. That says why we are there. It doesn't say we should not impeach Bush.

I'm still upset he sent his wife into this region knowing the hell that is out there. His buddies corporate globalists profit is all he cares about.

Warning, pop-up hell ahead...

http://www.forbes.com/home/feeds/afx/2005/05/23/afx2046602.html

BAGHDAD (AFX) - The commander of Iraq's new counter-insurgency headquarters was gunned down while driving to work in Baghdad this morning, a cabinet office statement said.

Major-General Wael Rubaye and his driver were shot dead by unknown assailants in a district of west Baghdad.

Rubaye was the commander of a new special operations room, set up by the national security ministry to coordinate the fight against insurgents.

Yesterday, an insurgent hit squad shot dead a senior civil servant working at the trade ministry and his driver, also on their way to work.

... The Irony Abounds in Iraq too.

An adviser to the office of Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari was gunned down Monday morning in Baghdad's al-Mansur neighborhood, Iraqi police and a government ministry said.

According to police, Maj. Gen. Wael al-Rubaie and his driver were killed in a drive-by shooting on a main thoroughfare in central Baghdad.

A statement from the Iraqi Ministry of State for National Security Affairs said al-Rubaie was "assassinated by the treacherous and criminal hand of terrorism while on his way to work this morning."
