Some Question Need for Calif. Election
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is steaming toward a special election he insists is necessary to return "power to the people." But it's not clear "the people" understand why.

Two years after he was swept into office in a popular recall election, the Republican governor wants a special election to consider measures aimed at restricting state spending and curbing the influence of public employee unions.

Critics have questioned why he is forcing such a high-stakes showdown over issues that appear less than urgent, especially since the state's next regularly scheduled election is little more than a year away.

"We don't want a special election," said Steve Maviglio, a spokesman for Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, who has emerged as one of the governor's most frequent critics. "This is a corporate-funded effort to foist a bunch of issues on the electorate, none of which have any urgency."

During a radio interview last week, Schwarzenegger said he would call a special election "no matter what." He is raising millions of dollars in campaign donations this weekend during a swing through Florida, Illinois and Texas.

Interesting how der Gropinator has to go outside the state to raise money for his "reform" of California. All Arnie is, is a front man for old Pete Wilson Republicans in the state who want to join California to the rest of the states destroyed by the Rethuglican Fascist machine. He must be stopped.

14. Suffice it to say in the Presidential "contest" in 2004 . . .
Thousands upon thousands of Bush votes showed up from districts where they would never have been expected. It helped to pad the count and lead media types who can't even count on their fingers to talk about a "mandate" -- just like it was supposed to do.

5. If he is raising money out of state you know he isn't on our side.
He has to go to repukes out of state to fund a repuke take over of CA. It should be against the law for one out of state cent to influence our state elections.

15. It's going to cost the counties millions of dollars
and they're getting no reimbursement from the state which is already bleeding them dry. It's a stupid and cynical ploy by a B grade actor. But California seems to love their air-heads in high places.

16. On our local 1240am AAR
The drive home person is Christine Craft. She's got a commerical that talks about what this 70 million dollars 'could' be spent on, firefighters, teachers, police, etc. It's very effected. It also gives the info about the rally on the 25th. I think that it's going to be after 5pm.
