'Fresh query' over Galloway fund

Galloway - How Dare He Speak That Way To U.S. !

'Fresh query' over Galloway fund

UK MP George Galloway could face a new inquiry into the finances of an appeal he set up to help a sick Iraqi girl.

The Charity Commission has said it will contact US senators investigating claims Mr Galloway was given credits for Iraqi oil by Saddam Hussein.

The UK body is keen to see US evidence concerning Mr Galloway's Mariam Appeal.

The MP denies funds from the sale of oil were funnelled through the appeal. He told senators a previous Commission inquiry had found no impropriety.

1. oh they will hound them like they hound clinton back here.

...............Some of the records for the appeal had been taken out of the country by its then chairman, Jordanian businessman Fawaz Zureikat, Mr Dibble told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

This meant investigators had to "reconstruct" the income and expenditure of the appeal fund by looking at its bank accounts, he said.

"With the help of the trustees... we were able to establish at least that the majority of the monies were applied for purposes that were charitable," he said.

The Charity Commission has now asked to see the US senators' evidence in order to establish if further action is needed.

15. Arguably, hounding Clinton helped Clinton politically
It may well have prevented him from getting a lot of his agenda moved forward, but it seemed to help with his political popularity. I think hounding Galloway would have the same effect.

2. I heard the Charity Commission representative interviewed
about this on the radio this week, after the hearing. He was very calm and reasonable, and at the end of the interview he said pleasantly and quietly that the Charity Commission would ask the Senate to send the Commission what evidence they had. He didn't sound as if he was expecting anything exciting.

4. And ALSO - Vote inquiry in Galloway's seat
Vote inquiry in Galloway's seat

Mr Galloway beat Labour's Oona King in a tight contest
Election officials in MP George Galloway's constituency are investigating 250 complaints from people who were unable to vote.
Mr Galloway beat Labour in Bethnal Green and Bow by 823 just votes but has complained about the electoral roll.

A spokesman for Tower Hamlets Council said it was examining reports from people who found they were not on the register on polling day.

19. The important thing to remember here
is that it is the LABOUR party that controls Tower Hamlets. If this was an attempt to fiddle the election, it was an attempt to get oona King re-elected.

22. Bethnal Green and Bow
The election contest in Bethnal green & Bow between Oona King and George Galloway was probbably the dirtiest of any constituency in Britain. All sorts of allegations and incidents occured down there during the election. Just take a look through some of the old threads in the UK forum during the election.

5. This could blow up in Coleman's face
If the evidence he claims to have is the same old rehash, this will be very bad for the Repugs.

Look for Coleman to refuse to turn over the documents.

14. Oh, you're getting much too cynical.......
I mean savvy.

I agree. I keep thinking there are lots of chinks in the Republican armor getting more attention these days. I'm optimistically hopeful that things may be turning.

16. Two more signs the worm is turning for the Repugs
Dubya's approval rating is at 43%, down from 48% last month.

The Repug controlled Congress' approval rating is at 33%, down from 37% last month.

And 70% say they are unhappy with the way the Repugs are handling themselves.

I erased my blog and want to start another, knowing that for it to succeed it has to offer a fresh angle or something usable. So the first idea that came to mind was a "Draft Galloway" sort of thing...how does that sound?

Maybe aimed at single liberal gals who's biological alarm clocks are going off and need some righteous antiwar sperm donated (like me) Well, that part is just a drunken late night flight of fancy.

I could call it wwv.draftgallowayoratleasthisbabybatter.blogdot,com

sorry, I could not resist. But, he indeed gave me hope of a brighter future, one where there's hope that the west does not slip back into the dark ages....where the thought of childbearing does not send cold chills of worry up my spine.

what the extremists do to him, it doesn't affect us.

let them do what they will. they're wasting time and effort.

by the way, coleman is a womanizing hosebag. ask anyone who has met him in Minnesota.

24. This is getting a bit boring
they investigated before, and found jack shit. The Charity Commission got all the bank details, even if not all the accounts, and found no problems - how that's gonna be changed now is anyone's guess. But of course half the point of these investigations is to take up so much of George's time and RESPECT's time fighting them that there is no time to do anything else, like campaign against the myriad of legislative bullshitisms proposed by the Labour government for this term of office.

25. it's the HEIGHT of HYPOCRISY considering the OIL CARTEL driving da bus
if they wanna play these games i would say fine because a worthy opposition would take the lowering of the bar opportunity to investigate lame allegations to investigate the chimp and Chaney for LIFE, but since our quisling opposition leaders don't seem to have the spine for any of the NUMEROUS opportunities to investigate and at the very least slow these murderous thugs down it instead will be an opportunity to investigate the left unopposed :argh:

peace
