Pair raise funds for California ballot measures (Jeb Bush,Schwarzenegger)
Schwarzenegger enlists Bush's aid

Pair raise funds for California ballot measures

By John Kennedy
Tallahassee Bureau
Posted May 20 2005

TALLAHASSEE · California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is calling on his Florida counterpart to pump him up in an ongoing battle with his state's Democratic legislators.

Gov. Jeb Bush will join Schwarzenegger at fund-raisers in Florida this weekend to raise cash for ballot measures aimed at side-stepping the Democratic-controlled Legislature of California.

In doing so, Bush is drawing criticism from both coasts for helping out with Schwarzenegger's initiative campaigns. Bush has long condemned the spread of voter mandates in Florida, saying they make it difficult to manage the state's finances.

"I think there is a certain bit of irony there," said Ben Wilcox, executive director of Florida Common Cause, which has fought Bush and Florida's Republican-led Legislature over efforts to restrict ballot measures. "It always seems that people don't like the citizens initiative process, unless their initiative is in play."

1. California better get prepared....
Take to the streets for war on the vote type events, because as sure as the sun, they want to install Diebold everywhere....They want to make sure the voting rights are denied. Calling in Jeb Bush is basically like calling in the last seargent.

2. Arnold got chased out of California
At every fund raiser there are demonstrators. That's why he has gone to Florida. And the reason Jeb is helping him is because he's as crooked as his brother Shrub.

3. I wonder if California's nurses and firefighters and teachers
could get their counterparts in Florida to protest there the way they have in California?

6. He wants re-districting SO bad that it hurts
He's going to put an initiative on the ballot to pull a Texas right here. It's shocking how many people one talks to are swallowing the line that the districts should be more "open" and not so predetermined.

Now that Kevin Shelley's gone, we're going to have more and more electronic voting, and if the screws can be put on this state's economy, it's possible to swing this state red. This state is nowhere near a done deal for the blue; with the Hispanic vote alone, abortion and gay marriage could be made a huge deal.

10. I am scared
I saw a Viva Bush sticker on a Mexican cafe car in Scotts Valley CA yesterday. Before the election I saw a Viva Bush sticker on a Mexican hamburger stand van in Mountain View CA. I wonder why these guys are for Bush. Is it because their Catholic priest is telling them Bush is against abortion? Is it for some other reason?

9. I guess this fundraiser's after the one in Texas....
Talk about gall on steroids...

CA Contractors & Oilman Host Texas Shakedown by Jamie Court and David Fink

According to a fundraising invitation, the hosts of Arnold's Monday night fundraiser in Dallas are Jeff Rich, the CEO of state approved contractor ACS Inc; Bob Schlegel, Chairman and CEO of the Pavestone Company, which has a state construction contract worth $113,000; and Texas Oilman T. Boone Pickens. Pickens said recently that the US will see a boom market for Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) imports and, not surprisingly, Schwarzenegger called on the federal government this week to maintain state oversight of LNG and LNG terminals to be built on the West Coast. That gives Schwarzenegger continued jurisdiction over an area of great interest to Pickens.

For 50 grand, Texas friends of the hosts can buy a photo and two seats at the Governor's table. 25G gets four seats at another table and a photo. This Texas shindig sounds an awful lot like a Texas Shakedown. Arnold should cancel, the way he recently closed down his fundraiser at the home of Harry C. Elliot III after the construction company owner told the Los Angeles Times that he wanted to ask Arnold about gutting the California Environmental Quality Act, whose environmental standards have cut into the profits of builders like Elliot and Schlegel since it was enacted 35 years ago.

Yesterday six San Diego pension board members were indicted for violating Government Code Section 1090, which prohibits members of public boards from having a financial interest in any contract the board engages in. Surely, the spirit of that law should apply to a Governor profiting from out-of-state contractors who raise six-figure donations to salvage Arnold's political future.
