Standing ovation for Galloway
Respect MP George Galloway received a rapturous welcome at a packed rally a day after a ferocious showdown with US senators. Hundreds turned up at a meeting in London to celebrate his general election victory over Labour's Oona King. He was hailed as the "man of the moment" after returning from Washington today.

While there he was quizzed by a Senate sub committee over allegations he profited from Iraq's oil-for-food scandal. After his interrogation he was convinced he had successfully rubbished the claims that he received vouchers for 20 million barrels of oil from Saddam Hussein's regime. He also used his impassioned performance to denounce the Iraq war and attack the United States government as "the villains of the piece".

Arriving tonight at Friends Meeting House he received a three-minute standing ovation from the full house. The crowd raised their hands to applaud him, cheered loudly and chanted "Respect" as he made his way to the platform, where he stood to receive their acclaim.

Linda Smith, chairing the meeting, said; "I think you will agree that tonight we have got a fantastic platform of speakers, including the man of the moment, George Galloway." The first to address the rally was Mark Serwotka, general secretary of the PCS Union, who saluted Mr Galloway's "spectacular victory" in the Bethnal Green and Bow constituency.

Edited on Thu May-19-05 05:48 AM by aion
Mr. Galloway,

Your recent senate appearance was a breath of fresh air here in the
USA. You were, if anything, too polite to these people. It wasn't
so much that you said anything that we didn't know (if we were paying
attention), but the fact that you fired it off in such rapid
succession. Please don't stop the offensive. Our country has been
hijacked by these religious zealots, and you sounded like a Thomas
Paine in your criticism. You were right on with the 'praeposterous'
claim.

Unfortunately, most Americans will think this simply is another word
for 'absurd.' Their religious beliefs have the cart before the horse
all the time, so perhaps you should emphasize the meaning of the word.
These people decide first what they want to believe, and then they
look for evidence which will support that claim. They are about as
praeposterous as it gets. As with the missing WMDs in Iraq, these
people are in denial. As you might remember Rumsfeld's claim "Absense
of evidence is not evidence of absense". This is what you're up
against. These people don't understand the problems involved in
proving a negative -- or perhaps they do...as the sophists did.

These people, and I hessitate to call them that, are beyond shameful.
You most definitely have your work cut out for you, and with the
coverage you've received, I can't imagine that they're not going to
retalliate. You did brilliantly, Mr. Galloway. You have truth on
your side, and truth is the only thing which can stop them now.

There are so many Americans that are hungry to hear the truth. You gave that to us.

I fear that my country is slipping further into a dark hole and I can't see how we are going to recover.

Can we just forget that whole 1776 thing and come home?

Thank you again,

Ronny K Marshall

A Spike In My Anglophilia

I could go on and on about how your recent appearance at the United States Capitol brought and all too rare injection of truth into the lingering debate over our government's illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq and murder of innocent Iraqis. Let me err on the side of brevity instead by saying: thank you on behalf of all Yankees who respect the truth and rule of law above all else.

Sincerely,

9. Saw Rose last night
Could you believe what a big dick Charlie was? Gawd he was terrible, interrupting Galloway and trying to put words in his mouth. But Galloway wiped the floor with Charlie and did a great job explaining how screwed up Coleman and the US are.

Galloway articulated the peace movement's background and correctness as well as anyone ever could. Then Charlie thanked him for his "Differing Voice"... how 'bout "Perfectly Correct Voice", Mr. Stinky Rose? Everyone else has been wrong, and Galloway was Right!

Used to think Rose had a bit of fairness left in him, guess I was wrong.

12. Galloway Turns Table on US Senators: Press
The press, both in Britain and the United States, highlighted Wednesday, May 18, the spirited defense by British anti-war lawmaker George Galloway, to US Senate accusations on receiving oil kickbacks from the former Iraqi regime, turning the table on his US accusers.“Galloway not only defended himself robustly but also threw the charges back in the face of the American administration,” Britain’s mass-circulation Daily Mirror said.During a voluntary hearing session Tuesday, Galloway vehemently denied US claims that he received Iraqi oil money from ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

The British daily, which vehemently opposed the US-led war on Iraq, added that what stung the US Senate was “when Galloway pointed out that their own Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld had twice met Saddam to sell him arms”.
The flamboyant British lawmaker said, during the hearing session, that he had met the former Iraqi president on two occasions - the same number of times as US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

“The difference is Donald Rumsfeld met him to sell him guns and maps - the better to target those guns. I met him to try to bring about an end to sanctions, suffering and war,” he said.

“Street Fighter”

Top-selling The Guardian said the 50-year-old Scotsman’s “counter-attacks” against the US Senate looked like as if he (Galloway) was “in street fighting form”. “He (Galloway) scored several points, especially with his jibe at Rumsfeld,” the British daily said.

Paul O'Neill said this all in January 04 and was laughed at and called a conspiracy theorist.

From the very beginning, there was a conviction that Saddam Hussein was a bad person and that he needed to go," O'Neill told CBS, according to excerpts released Saturday by the network. "For me, the notion of pre-emption, that the U.S. has the unilateral right to do whatever we decide to do, is a really huge leap."

O'Neill, who served nearly two years in Bush's Cabinet, was asked to resign by the White House in December 2002 over differences he had with the president's tax cuts. O'Neill was the main source for "The Price of Loyalty: George W. Bush, the White House, and the Education of Paul O'Neill," by former Wall Street Journal reporter Ron Suskind.

.....

"There are memos," Suskind told the network. "One of them marked 'secret' says 'Plan for Post-Saddam Iraq.'"

Suskind cited a Pentagon document titled "Foreign Suitors For Iraqi Oilfield Contracts," which, he said, outlines areas of oil exploration. "It talks about contractors around the world from ... 30, 40 countries and which ones have what intentions on oil in Iraq."

FBI Whistleblower Edmonds Files New Lawsuit

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Sibel Edmonds, a former FBI contract linguist who was terminated in 2002 after becoming a whistleblower regarding the 9/11 tragedy, today filed the most detailed lawsuit to date outlining her allegations. The complaint, filed under the Federal Torts Claims Act (FTCA), reveals for the first time details surrounding Ms. Edmonds' interactions with a former FBI colleague who raised suspicions by her perceived efforts to recruit the Edmonds into at least two Turkish organizations. Also disclosed are the names of those within the FBI who went out of their way to undercut Ms. Edmonds' concerns.

Got kicked out of the Labour Party in 2003 because of his opposition to the war and started his own party "Respect Coalition", the "Stop The War movement". He gets written up frequently in the Friend, a Quaker newspaper.
He's got a voting record in the UK, the way you would expect. For example he voted against control orders for terrorist suspects, against ID cards, for allowing unmarried and gay couples to adopt children, for a full ban on hunting with dogs.
