Newsweek Urged To Go On Arab TV
from CBS News:

"The White House on Wednesday suggested one way for Newsweek magazine to repair any damage from a story that outraged the Muslim world and triggered deadly anti-American protests in Afghanistan.

Presidential spokesman Scott McClellan urged the magazine's editors to take their case straight to the Muslim community, by appearing on Arab television. He made the comment after noting that Newsweek editors have been already been appearing on U.S. television outlets to talk about the incident.

{snip}

The White House said the image of the United States suffered irreparable damage from the Newsweek article. The administration also used the Newsweek incident to criticize other, unnamed news organizations."

1. these guys have no shame
and Arab world won't be fooled on this.

It will just confirm that our press is spineless and contemptible in dealing with these fascists.

2. NO! They'll just make things worse
Newsweek should make it clear they are retracting the whole story then STFU about it.

3. Would be nice if the neocons went there too and apologized for
supporting strongmen and elites for such a long time. To apologize to the people. You know...the vast majority who are not fundies but have lived in pseudo-democracies that struggle with Saudi funded extremism.

It's Bush that needs to go on Arab TV and be honest about the torture and the illegal invasion.

6. Well, if they are going to tell the story, I hope they'll tell the whole
story, not some brief that Simple Scotty writes up for them in simple sentences. They should hear about how the unnamed source saw the article before, took it to superiors and they never acted on it. Kind of like how Abu Ghraib was ignored.

13. Right let Newsweek go on Arab TV and say
a White House insider asked us to keep his identity confidential. S/He told us the truth about desecrating the Quoran was in a US Government document. We asked the Pentagon and Department of Defense to review the story. They said they were OK with it. We published it. A week later the Strong Men in Afghanistan rioted against turning over authority to a CIA straw man. The Whitehorse wanted someone to blame. They picked us. The told the confidential source to change his story. The source changed his story. We announced that that part of the story was wrong. The Whitehorse kept the pressure on us and we withdrew the article. WE know that the report or non reporting of the desecration of your God's words does not change the desecration in any way. The 'Confidential Informer" is KKKarle Rove.

9. If the damage was "irreparable," an apology would be irrelevant . . .
someone needs to buy these fools a dictionary, teach 'em how to use it. . .

10. Shock and Awe was irreparable damage. Abu Ghraib was irreparable
damage. Guantanamo is irreparable damage. It's not the stories that are hurting us, it's the facts.

12. It is not the story, it is the event itself that caused the outrage.
The article didn't tell people in the middle east anything they weren't already aware of. I suppose in addition to covering for the Bush administration, the Newsweek supplications are for the Saudi government and other puppet regimes to wave around to their enraged populations.

15. "In other news, Newsweek introduced George Galloway as their new
ombudsman.

Mr.Galloway's first task will be to appear on Arab TV at the behest of the White House to make the White House's case that everything the White House has done regarding Iraq has been completely aboveboard..."

Would that be sweet or what?
Oh what a stench there'd be from every Republican bowel in DC letting go simultaneously!
