British MP Galloway to testify before US Congress on UN oil-for-food scan
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20050515/wl_uk_afp/usuniraqoilbritain_050515222317

LONDON (AFP) - British member of parliament George Galloway left for Washington to testify before the US Senate following allegations he received oil-based kickbacks from Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq.

He told reporters he would use the occasion to accuse the United States of seeking to create a diversion from the "real issues."

"I am going to accuse them of being involved in a huge diversion from the real issues in Iraq, which are the theft of billions of dollars worth of Iraq's wealth by the United States of America and its corporations and the deaths of more than 100,000 people in Iraq, the destruction of the country, the opening of the doors to Islamic extremism of the Al-Qaeda variety -- tremendous crimes they have committed in Iraq," Galloway said.

"They want to throw people's attention onto (UN Secretary-General) Kofi Annan ... and myself and the government of France," he added.

:woohoo:

3. Condi says many of the Iraqis are "disaffected". Does that mean that
they don't have any ties to the Iraqi oil industry... sort of like the ones she had/has to Chevron.... or was it Exxon.... no matter.

I'd be "disaffected" too if I knew that most of my family and friends should be extremely well off, IF they were genuinely brought into the the reconstruction contracts and received wages similar to what the mercs and the foreign contractors were handed, AND if they were tied to the oil industry as is 90% of our present administration.

Mr. Galloway, you sir are certainly on the right track. Play through, don't take any guff from these thugs.

Thank You. Unreservedly, and with complete gratitude, I thank you for your efforts. I thank you on behalf of the Constitution, and the citizenry, and general spirit of freedom that I believe and hope still pervades this great land.

I thank you in advance for putting up with the doltish and the cynical. I thank you for trying your damnedest to help. I thank you.

7. UK's Galloway to U.S. in bid to clear name on Iraq

Mon May 16, 2005
By Matthew Jones

LONDON (Reuters) - Maverick British lawmaker George Galloway set off to the United States Monday determined to face down allegations that ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein awarded him the right to buy oil.

The U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations last week released documents that it said showed Saddam personally granted Galloway the rights to export 20 million barrels of oil under the now-defunct U.N. oil-for-food humanitarian program.

"The committee came to its conclusions without any questions or contact being made with me," Galloway told Reuters Sunday.

"It is a monstrous abuse of natural justice."
