Iraq's Chalabi wants to be cleared by Jordan, not pardoned
Controversial Iraqi politician Ahmed Chalabi, who faces a jail sentence in Amman over a massive alleged bank fraud, wants to be cleared by Jordan and will reject a royal pardon, his party said.

Chalabi, one of Iraq's new deputy prime ministers, denied reports that officials had asked King Abdullah of Jordan to pardon him and maintained his innocence, in a statement issued by his Iraqi National Congress.

"Dr Chalabi will not accept a royal pardon. Such a pardon was offered to Dr. Chalabi by His Majesty King Hussein of Jordan in March 1998 but he declined to accept," the statement said.

"Jordan and Dr. Chalabi's emissary have been engaged in talks at the highest levels of the Jordanian governmental, legal and financial bodies with a view to resolving this issue on the basis of legally clearing Dr Chalabi's name."

2. Pushy little bastard, isn't he?
Listening to Sy Hersh on Democracy Now, Hersh says he was given a copy of the trial transcript in Arabic and the New Yorker had it translated--I think the quote was something like, "they had him cold, six ways to Sunday, the whole shot--stealing the accounts of little old ladies" and there was some strong suggestion of involvement of the Royal Family, bribery, etc.

Chalabi has had an amazing run of luck, thus far. I keep wondering when it's going to run out, suddenly and completely.

Let's put it this way... if the Iraqis find out he branched out to stealing the proceeds from their oil, all the bodyguards in the world will be of no help to him....

4. Will someone please assassinate that asshole?
Jesus, there must be a million bullets and bombs flying around Bagdhad, why can't one of them waste that worthless mofo?

He's a fucking Iranian spy who tricked poor retarded Dubya into invading Iraq, and he's still alive? I think the rule is the more you screw the US the longer you live... but if you're just in the wrong place at the wrong time you get tortured in Gitmo for the rest of your life.

11. Uh - I don't think Bush needed any tricking to invade Iraq -
Bush would have invaded Iraq had Chalabi never been born.
