106. John Conyers and the Congressional Black Caucus...
...(which is well-represented on this list, I believe) -- as far as I'm concerned they are doing an OUTSTANDING job of trying to preserve, protect, and defend our Constitution and our nation during these very dark times we are living through. They've been in the forefront of trying to keep the rigged-elections issue alive, among other things.

My undying gratitude to him and to them. :loveya:

I'm also thrilled to see so many California congresswomen on the list! Not mine as yet, but we'll see.

This is such great news for me to go to bed on. I'm really smiling, for a change. Someone's already noted that this motion ultimately is symbolic -- but symbolism is damn important sometimes. Like all of our protests before the invasion of Iraq, history will record that this illegitimate president and his bastardized administration have nothing resembling a mandate of the people, and that at least half the people know it.

85. Conyers for Prez! If you pray, pray for his protection.
Here is the reason WHY you don't appoint a man who authorized torture to the Attorney General's Office... but then, I guess that will make victory all the more sweet when Gonzales has to prosecute himself or step down because he's guilty.

We should all start writing History books so if the revisionists get in there (God forbid the rethugs should stay in power - but even if they don't - I say forget about letting them whitewash anything.)

Kids reading this 10 years from now won't think History is boring. It's like a soap opera with all those people at that fancy dinner putting a cone-head of protection over Tom (we come from France) DeLay. While outside the people demonstrated against his flim-flam ways.

the exact reason he was put in his position of power.

Conyers is such a great guy - actually he's the only great guy I can think of lately inside Congress. At least he tries to bring attention to mass corruption.

15. Gonzales has an obvious conflict of interest on this one,
He will refer the decision to someone whose conflict of interest is less evident. The result will be the same.

Our only hope to establish the rule of law on this issue and prevent this and other reprehensible acts from happening again is to gain control of the House in 2006. (Is control of the Senate too much to hope for?).

I'm starting to discuss potential candidates to run to defeat Republicans and conservatives entrenched in seats near my own very Democratic district. We need to start planning and working on this now. Delay means losing again. Ask yourself: What am I doing to put Democrats into Congress in 2006? If the answer is "nothing," stop complaining and get to work. If the answer is "I'm ..........," thank you and keep up the good work.

Sorry to be so preachy but we need to get off the victim bandwagon and start setting and going for our goals.

43. Accountability
The UK memo is the smoking gun on Bush's lies for war. Not only did he lie for war, a war crime, but then he lied and lied and lied to cover it up. All the shit about the intelligence being wrong, etc. was also a lie. Not only is he a serial liar, but he's a war criminal.

Now those sanctimonious GOPers, who said Clinton's lying about a blow job demeaned the office, are going to have to pretend that being a war criminal and a serial liar are justified because of some greater good that's come of this.

Rise up. Get the torches and pitchforks.

71. They're meeting in boardrooms right now to figure out
how to handle it. Just like Abu Ghraib, it was months before the story was released to the sheeple. By then they had worked out a strategery: they selected a couple of images and saturated us with them so that most people turned away in disgust. They picked their scapegoat: Pvt. England.

I just found out today that Abu Ghraib included forced, group masturbating. I don't remember them mentioning that. But, of course, I guess that's nothing compared to murder.

We could try to guess the spin, I suppose, but I don't want to accidentally help.

34. My message to John Conyers ...
Subject: UK Memo and War Crimes

Thank you, sir!! As an entrapped liberal in Joe Knollenberg's district, I can't begin to describe my frustration with the partisan blindness that has licensed the heinous abuses of the Bush/Cheney administration.

As a Vietnam Veteran and well-informed voter, I am convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that this administration has condoned, if not sponsored, war crimes and crimes against humanity in the fraudulent war and occupation of Iraq.

This opinion can no longer be regarded as a radical or partisan position. The abundance of evidence that implicates this administration, despite a level of secrecy and opacity in excess of any administration in our nation's history, is no longer deniable.

I'm proud that a Michigan Congressman has the courage and conscience to take a lead in surfacing these issues. I cannot be proud of a country that uses its global superpower status to abuse human rights and trample international laws. Unless and until members of the current administration are imprisoned for this criminality, we're an outlaw nation -- to our shame.

99. Here is my letter...
Thank you Mr. Conyers for daring to speak truth. Please be vigilant about your personal security! A social conscience seems to be a dangerous liability in the pack of sharks you must swim with.

If only the corporate media would report the news about the coup that has taken place in America. The emperor and his criminal gang are insane. They have utterly destroyed any good will we had in the world community by their evil actions in Iraq and elsewhere. Their carefully planned and systematic use of torture makes me ashamed of my country. Their continued use of torture even after being exposed is proof of insanity. Not only is it guaranteed to enrage the entire Islamic world, it is ineffective.

The brazen looting of the public trust in broad daylight is ignored by the corporate media which is just too busy trumpeting the daily propaganda. Jeff Gannon is the poster boy for much that is wrong with Bu$h world.
Is democracy dead in America? Why are your Democrat colleagues so silent in the face of this coup? I think it is long past time for citizen action to reclaim our country so cynically auctioned off to the lobbyist with the deepest pockets.
Recent reports indicate we have about ten years before irreversible environmental damage as a result of global warming begins. Are the Republicans secretly building an Ark in which to escape to some off-world gated community when their work destroying this planet is done?

Personally, I think we must appeal to families. Parents must be informed of the wolves amongst the flock. They hold the power to reverse this crime against humanity and the natural world. They do the hard work of supporting their families while dealing with the stress of being outsourced and losing the pathetic safety net available to them. Their hard-earned tax dollars are used to enrich parasitic war mongers and con-men who have taken control of America.
If the democrats do give a rat's ass about the future of this country, they must ACT NOW to get the message out. Please work with groups like MoveOn to reframe the dialog and shine a spotlight on our naked emperor.
The alarms must be sounded by EVERY democrat in DC if we are to salvage anything resembling a free country for our children to inherit.

In solidarity,
Al Gomas

67. Good choice
I'd need extra insurance on my pickup and my body if I drove around with those stickers here in Oklahoma. They are god fearing around here, got little fish on their bumpers, hair all twisted up in a bun, you get the picture. I'd like to try it once but am too much of a coward. Many years ago when my daughter was in high school she got a bumper sticker somewhere that said "Jesus is coming and boy is he pissed." That was the late "70's" and she wasn't attacked but I convinced her it wasn't a good idea.

Conyers is as much loyal to "them" as you don't want to believe.
Granted, I hope these efforts by Conyers at least awaken the American people HOWEVER,....read the link provided...

I just wish Rep. Upton had a bit of your patriotism! It will be interesting to see how the Administration handles this. My understanding is that the International Criminal Court can deal with such matters only after the offending country was given the opportunity and failed. I hope George Bush et al enjoy their travels while in office (diplomatic immunity) because things may get sticky after they leave office.

And don't forget the routine kidnapping and torture by the CIA - it's not just Abu Ghraib. It has a nice clean name: "extraordinary rendition":

80. Thank you- this is a great resource! I strongly recommend reading
that whole thread on Stephen Grey's report on the "extraordinary rendition" that I linked to. Here it is again:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1740193
Thread title: “MUST READ- French article on US TORTURE with interviews of ex-CIA agents”

He's a respected British investigative journalist whom I regard as similar to Seymour Hersh in many ways. His work on this was the subject of a BBC broadcast in February, for which the transcript is available, and there are many other articles published in places like the Sunday Times.. But somehow his work isn't picked up much by the US corporate media. Wonder why? :eyes:

These links are reachable through that thread; he has a web site. This issue is huge - and much broader than Abu Ghraib. And there is this pretense of legalism through it all - armies of lawyers prepare "justification" and it is signed off on AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS.

No wonder they wanted Gonzales. And OF COURSE the top people knew - they approved it.

Please read through that thread and let me know what you think. I believe Abu Ghraib is very important, but it is only one place, while this is going on routinely with these disappearing "ghost" planes all over the world.

87. Well, how nice........yawn
I think John Conyers is the cat's pajamas. But I'm so tired of the letters and stuff that end up meaning very little. I suppose, if luck and the gods are with us, that in centuries hence the history books will make some mention that there WERE people "trying" to do something -- at least to document -- all this insanity. But does anyone including him really think anything will come of this?

not fulfilling his duties, aka guilty as sin himself. I want them to follow those protocols & go all the way-purge all the corruption. Old Rome failed to do this & they got destroyed (justifiably so). Is the USA up to the challenge?
