Terri Schiavo Family Wants Info on Ashes

snip....2 hours, 39 minutes ago

MIAMI - The family of a severely brain-damaged woman who died after her feeding tube was removed in March said Friday they still have not been told where her remains will be laid to rest. Terri Schiavo's parents and siblings, who waged a lengthy court battle over her end-of-life wishes, said on Fox's "Hannity & Colmes" show that her husband is keeping her remains from them.......end

4. Here's a story on the autopsy
Schiavo findings won't be rushed

By LEONORA LaPETER, Times Staff Writer
Published May 9, 2005

Despite conflicting calls for thoroughness and quick results, Jon Thogmartin won't let appeals from the public force his hand.

LARGO - People around the world have talked about the life and death of Terri Schiavo, but Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner Jon hogmartin will get the last word.

For the past month, he has been working on her autopsy. She has taken over his office and consumed his working hours. He appeared for an interview in blue scrubs, looking every bit the wiry medical examiner with his bald head and tiny wire-rimmed glasses.

"That's her and that's her," he says, pointing to piles of documents and boxes of slides stacked all over his office.

(snip)

Thogmartin, 41, knows Schiavo's autopsy will probably be the most publicized of his career. He won't talk about it until he is done and estimates it will be two or three more weeks.

He has received hundreds of letters and e-mails about the brain-damaged woman who died March 31, 13 days after her feeding tube was removed. Many ask him to look for signs she wasn't brain-dead or signs of abuse, among the allegations made during the protracted battle between her parents and her husband over whether to keep her alive.

"They are of no consequence to me," says Thogmartin of the letters.

23. The poor medical examiner!
I'll bet he couldn't possibly have imagined such a situation when he did his training. Science should take over from here and politics should be left at the door.

Still, it sounds as though he has the right attitude: get the work done in a thorough fashion. Let's hope the crazier elements leave this guy alone to do his job.

44. He probably did -- a final poke in the eye to her parents
Who weren't exactly the world's most wonderful people, but I can tell you that this kind of "game" on his part over her remains is utterly reprehensible.

It suddenly reminds me of the kinds of games divorcing parents often play with their kids as hostages. There is NEVER any excuse for that, never. And there's no excuse for this either, despite your gleeful interest in some sort of revenge.

6. You beat me to it - that was my question.
Perhaps it was released, but the Corporate Media was too busy salivating over The Runaway Bride and Paula Abdul. Or perhaps it was released and the findings "favored" Michael Schiavo and not the Schindlers...

13. I thoought it was released and
nothing 'abnormal' was revealed - no signs of abuse...whatever other accusations these wackos could think of.....thus it was completely w/i the boundaries of her diagnosis and brain degeneration. Since there was no way to construe any of the findings N2 something sensational, it was ignored by whorporate media.

29. reports released were regarding claims of abuse in the hospice
THE DCF released some reports regarding her care while she was in the hospice and showed nothing out of the ordinary in terms of her condition or medical care during her time there.

Regardless, the pro-lifers stated that the reports were just summaries and had been scrubbed before their release.

No matter what the autopsy comes to indicate one side or another is going to claim the ME was a stooge or a plant and continue to insist that either a) Terri wasn't going to recover or b) Terri could have recovered and should have been allowed to live.

No side is going to concede they were wrong on this case.

Better to wait a dozen years or so, then hand over the ashes. By then most cons will have forgotten about the issue.

16. No way. Somehow I see Ms. Schiavo's ashes...
ending up on the Jesus trailer hitch, touring the country, with well-wishers being charged a fee to pay their respects. Her husband wants her ashes interred at an undisclosed location (family cemetery in PA somewhere) so the poor woman can truly rest in peace.

in Pa. near where they were from originally. Phila area I think. I also think he said he wasn't going to tell her parents the exact location, and I can't say that I blame him. They treated him like pond slime for the last 9 years or so, and accused him of every crime they could think of. TS folks, they don't deserve to know.

37. The judge had ordered Michael to inform the Schindlers as to when
Edited on Mon May-09-05 04:57 PM by Bunny
and where Terri's ashes would be interred (or is it inurned?). He has never disobeyed a court order, so I imagine he'll adhere to this as well.

I'm guessing that he is waiting for this story to die down some, and then will have a private ceremony at the cemetary in Pennsylvania. If I were him, I'd wait until the fall - it's beautiful here in PA during autumn, and that would be a long time after her death. Maybe long enough to keep the vultures away.

Her family continues to lie and suck at the teat of the corporate media. Is it any wonder he's waiting a while to complete this process?

45. Colmes interviewed Michael Schiavo's brother tonight
Edited on Mon May-09-05 10:28 PM by kskiska
He said the Sshindlers want to keep this thing going because they're being funded by the right-to-lifers. He asked, "Who's paying Bob Schindler's bills? Scott(?) Schindler (Terri's brother) is supposed to be a teacher. How are they all paying the bills? It's in their interests to keep the story on the air." (paraphrased)

He also said that Bob Schindler once said (in his presence) that Michael ought to "go out and get himself a piece of a**," meaning he ought to move on with his life.

He also talked about Mark Fuhrman's upcoming quickie book. Fuhrman never interviewed anyone from the Schiavo family. I wonder if he'll even wait for the autopsy before releasing the book?
