Poll Shows Increased Doubts About Iraq War, Bush
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=564&ncid=716&e=12&u=/nm/20031002/ts_nm/bush_poll_dc

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Most Americans now believe the Iraq war was not worth it, said a CBS News/New York Times poll released on Thursday that showed President Bush's approval ratings near a record low for his presidency.

The poll found new lows for Bush's foreign policy performance, which garnered just a 44 percent approval rating. Among respondents, 50 percent lacked confidence in his ability to handle an international crisis and 53 percent said they now believed the Iraq war was not worth it.

Bush's overall job approval rating was just above 50 percent, almost back to the level before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and down sharply from his 89 percent approval rating after the attacks, the poll said.

"Landing on the carrier, declaring the conflict over, this Romanesque sort of victory parade, certainly did raise the stakes," historian James T. Smith told CBS News. "And now those expectations are falling because people are seeing that the Iraq situation is not going according to plan."

2. The media, who have been Bush's partners in crime, are ..
certainly changing their tune now. Better late than never, I guess, but after we take back our government, some should pay for their duplicity.

Oh yeah, ...the poll: HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN .....

4. This makes me sick. If people had Goddamned paid attention to begin with,
done a little research and used their brains, we wouldn't be in this mess now having killed and maimed thousands of people, lost many soldiers lives and pissed away billions of dollars, meanwhile opening up a frickin' breeding ground for terrorists.

Now they pay attention and only because of the money. Now you lazy people, impeach the lying bastard out of office for war crimes, treason, intimidation and bribery.

And for God's sake, don't vote another fucking Bush in office again.

9. The whole world
wanted the inspectors to be given as much time as they needed, and the troops can wait until the inspectors have done their job, but Bush & Co. were way too cocky and aggressive and impatient to get to the oilfields of Iraq, and had the backing of the ignorant Americans.

6. Though Bush's approval rating dropped just 1 point
from 52 to 51 in the past two weeks in this poll, his disapproval rating went up 3 points from 39 to 42. That means his approval-disapproval differential is just 9 points whereas it was 13 points in the previous poll. Something to keep in mind: Bush's disapproval rating is now solidly in the mid- to low 40s. That is easily the highest of his presidency.
(BTW, does anyone else wonder why they didn't ask any questions about Leakgate? Doesn't that seem strange?)

10. More than half of all Americans feel the war is not worth it.

That's a very encouraging development. Considering all the incompetency that we've seen and the difficulty of even getting this information to the public, it's a minor miracle that we've gotten to this point.

However, I hate to break it to the Average Taxpayer, they have not even BEGUN to feel the effects of this war. Many expenses have not surfaced yet. The budget deficits will hit sometime next year, and the next two years will be in the stratosphere. We have not started any kind of measurable reconstruction in Iraq yet. We certainly have not created any kind of peace there.

Think of it as Pandora's Box. Or better yet, think of the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. Think of those eager faces, as they open the Ark of the Covenant, anticipating - what?, only to have their faces melt off.

13. Great! But beware the object lesson.
Watching this dip in the fortunes of the Bush Reich is a delicious thing. But this is when they could prove as dangerous as ever.

If the public shows too much freedom from the lassoo of fear; if the groveling and trembling don't continue; if people break free from the mythic bonds of "everything changed on 9/11"; then maybe, just maybe, the administration will allow an inky-dinky-little-accident to occur, the better to bring the public back to heel. And of course it has other means than outright disaster at its disposal; travesties come in different shapes and sizes.

I suspect Mailer, Lapham, Krugman and other astute critics are correct; the pre-fascist conditions are in place, and the Bushies are capable of much worse yet. I wouldn't go counting my reborn democracy before it is hatched.

16. Will he lose that damn cocky walk that I get so tired of seeing
on a regular basis!?! Well Georgie Boy, it looks like your shit stinks after all! I have known it all along, I am glad that 1/2 the people finally realize it AGAIN! While I am enjoying Shrub's drop in the polls, I think it is just going to get better. When the Pres. election starts to go into full swing, I bet we get more dirt on this dirty administration! I can only hope.

to call for a special prosecutor. I will go ahead and call LaHood (Il.Repug who, btw, voted for the elimination of overtime, I called him on that one...he doesn't care! Thank God it lost anyway!)but I will keep calling. Every little bit helps right?

Jumped the shark, took it over the top.

Karl Rove, mastermind, my ass. Just a complete and total amnipulation of 9-11 - plus, I would love to have his rolodex where he keeps the phone numbers of everyone he has blackmailed to support his Gump boy, Bush*

21. What we need to work on is clear in this poll:
"more than five in 10 say he has more honesty and integrity than most people in public life"

That should be an easy target no? Payola to friends, lies, lies lies, intimidation. If ever there were a legitimate target for negative campaigning..

From the IHT report on this poll:
"But more than six in 10 Americans still say the president has strong qualities of leadership, more than five in 10 say he has more honesty and integrity than most people in public life and a majority credit him with making the country safer from terrorist attacks."
