3 U.S. Soldiers Killed in Separate Attacks in Central Iraq, Military Says

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Three U.S. soldiers were killed in separate attacks Sunday in central Iraq, the military said.

One soldier was killed and another wounded during an attack on their combat logistics patrol near Samarra, 60 miles north of Baghdad, the military said in a statement.

The wounded soldier was evacuated to a military medical facility, the statement said. Both soldiers were assigned to One Task Force Liberty.

Two soldiers also died during combat operations in an explosion near Khaldiyah, 75 miles west of Baghdad, the military said. The soldiers were assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - An explosion of insurgent violence in Iraq killed seven U.S. servicemembers over the weekend even as the Shiite-dominated parliament reached out Sunday to Sunni Arabs, approving four more of their number to serve as government ministers.

The battle, in which an unspecified number of insurgents were killed, began in Haditha, 140 miles northwest of Baghdad, when U.S. forces responding to small arms fire near the Haditha Dam and saw Iraqi civilians running from Haditha Hospital, the military said.

A TOTAL of seven US soldiers were killed and another wounded in a series of three bomb explosions over the weekend in Iraq, the US military said today.
Three marines and a sailor were killed in an attack by a suicide bomber in a car at Hadithah, 260km northwest of Baghdad.

One soldier was killed and another wounded the following day in an explosion while on patrol near Samarra, a Sunni Arab insurgent stronghold north of the capital.

Two more service personnel, assigned to a marine division, then died in an explosion near Khalidiyah, close to the rebel stronghold of Ramadi, west of the Baghdad.
