Talk of Quayle run for office heats up
The chatter regarding a possible Marilyn Quayle bid for Arizona governor next year is heating up as Republicans look to unseat Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano.

Some top Republicans are trying to get the wife of former vice president Dan Quayle to take on Napolitano.

(snip)

Napolitano currently enjoys high approval ratings, receives positive coverage from the state's dominant media outlet (The Arizona Republic) and is popular with women voters and Democratic core constituencies. The governor has also fostered decent relations with business leaders despite the fact they tend to be and support Republicans.

However, Napolitano barely won in the 2002 governor's race; Republicans hold a statewide voter registration edge and carried the state by 11 points for George W. Bush in November. GOP insiders point out that Quayle would appeal to some women voters and has the name recognition and fundraising capabilities to offer a serious challenge to Napolitano.

It always looked as though it might take off in a direction all its own when
she moved.

3. Don't think so...
First of all, I'm sure she's got about as much upstairs as Dan does or at least folks will think that. And she probably is too old to win as a "cute tomatoe" either... My guess is that Arizonans would rather have Janet than a carpet bagger from Indiana.

26. I guess she "wrote" a couple of books with the help of Casper
the Friendly Ghost.

Here's a blurb on her from a company that arranges speaking gigs for her:

http://www.speakersaccess.com/topics/women/m_quayle.html

Marilyn Tucker Quayle brings a unique perspective to the issues facing the American people. She is the closest advisor of her husband, Dan Quayle, who served as Vice President under President George Bush. She has an insider's knowledgeon the workings of Washington and respects and understands both the power of the free enterprise system and the limits of government's effectiveness.

Active in a number of charitable causes, she has placed a special emphasis on disaster preparedness and breast cancer research. Her efforts have resulted in numerous national and international awards and recognition. A woman of strong beliefs, she speaks passionately about faith, families and the future of America and the world. Her forthrightness has made her one of the most admired women of our time. Marilyn Quayle is co-author of two books: "Embrace the Serpent" and "The Campaign."

6. "cute tomatoe?" are you poking fun at quayle's gaffe... spelling "potatoe"
on a chalkboard in front of rolling cameras while attempting to "correct" a 12-year-old student's spelling bee "error?"

18. Back when he was running for vp - she was seen as the 'brains'
she always had her hand in the middle of his back - and the speculation was that she would give him signals if he veered off message - and such. She was also viewed as highly abraisive; intelligent - but abraisive. I somehow would not have envisioned her as running for office.

13. The difference between Baby Bush and Quayle
If a reporter asked Quayle a question and he didn't know the answer, he'd act like you just caught him picking his nose--a deer in the headlights.

If a reporter asks Baby Bush a question and he doesn't know the answer, he gets mad at the reporter for trying to make him look bad.

15. Over the years
I've had the pleasure of hiring students from the local university for a part time position doing the filing and stuff for my office. A few of them have come out of the law school and they were as dumb as a box of rocks. They can't even do the alphabet. At this point if someone tells me they are attending the law school, I probably wouldn't hire them.

Her claim to fame when they lived in Indiana was that she was the wife of a former Veep. Nothing more....
