Infant doused with pepper spray, police say

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

PONDERAY, Idaho -- A woman doused a 2-month-old girl with pepper spray while feuding with the infant's family in a Wal-Mart, police allege.

Lorlie Gantenbein, 36, of Sagle was charged Tuesday with felony injury to a child. She was released on $5,000 bail.

The 2-month-old girl was treated at a hospital and released after being sprayed Monday, police Chief Mike Hutter said.

In a telephone interview yesterday with The Associated Press, Gantenbein denied using the pepper spray.

5. How on earth did she get out on only $5k bond?
That's ridiculous. Anyone who would do that is obviously unhinged and unable to control themselves.

6. What is wrong with these people....
"She said she bought the canister for her 16-year-old daughter only as tensions rose in a feud with the baby's family.

The Gantenbein family had rented property to the baby's family, and then evicted them, she said. Tensions escalated when her daughter began dating the baby's father, she added."

11. Cops doused baby with pepper spray in Oregon
Edited on Thu May-05-05 07:03 PM by LeighAnn
at an anti-war rally in Portland Oregon a couple of years ago. I don't remember anybody facing charges over that. Shame on anyone who would pepper spray a baby.

Protest Against President Turns Into Scrimmage With Police
by Phil Busse

//

An hour earlier, in order to disperse crowds, pepper spray had been shot out of large canisters that looked like fire extinguishers. Near me, a father and an infant riding on his back had been pepper sprayed. The infant was as bright red as a ripe tomato. The dad was stoic.

When asked about the children who were pepper-sprayed, Henry Groepper, the police spokesperson, told a KATU reporter that parents should not bring kids to demonstrations. The police also pepper-sprayed a KATU reporter and cameraman.
