MANILA, Philippines (AP) -- A Filipino journalist shot and critically wounded has become the latest casualty in attacks that have prompted an international watchdog to call the Philippines the world's "most murderous" country for reporters.
Cline Cantoneros, 32, a hard-hitting radio broadcaster, was on his way home in southern Dipolog city on his motorcycle on Wednesday when three men shot him seven times with a .45 caliber pistol, city police Chief Superintendent Tomas Hizon said.
Cantoneros, who frequently criticized local officials for alleged corruption and mismanagement in his early morning program on Radio DXAA, was brought to a hospital in critical condition.
The broadcaster had received death threats, some through cell phone text messages, which he read on the air, colleagues said.
