WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Al Qaeda is still "very active" recruiting and seeking to attack the United States, although it has been hurt since the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001, Vice President Dick Cheney said on Monday.

"The enemy that appeared on 9/11 is wounded and off-balance, and on the run -- yet still very active, still seeking recruits, and still trying to find ways to hit us," said Cheney, who reviews intelligence on threats daily.

"As months and years pass, they are hoping that our country will grow complacent, and get lazy, and forget our responsibilities," he said in a speech to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia, according to a text released in Washington.

"And it's our job, ladies and gentlemen, to make sure the United States of America never lets down its guard."

1. F*ing Ass!
He said he "knew" that Saddam Hussein had WMD. He said he "knew" that Irag was supporting Al Qaeda and the 9/11 attacks. He has said many things, but never answered any questions, like what really happened at his "undisclosed location" during the development of the Energy Bill.

Not worth s**t.

24. Don't forget
Rummy went on "Meet the Press" and said they KNEW exactly where the weapons were. In Baghdad. Then they claimed late last year or early this year that they were moved to Syria. Now it's know there wasn't anything there. Fuckers.

12. What a tough guy.
When it was his time to put his ass on the line in a war he supported, he had "other priorities". You can bet your ass that Cheney's welfare is Cheney's only priority. He and his robber baron friends have squandered our resources on an unnecessary war, leaving us more vulnerable to terrorist attack than ever. Too bad we don't all have a hidey-hole to run to like Coward Cheney.

Then why did you empty the Treasury into your own pockets and cut funding for our schools, Homeland Security, airport security, and everything else except for Halliburton's contracts (which they aren't meeting and are overcharging on)?

15. cheney saying al-qaeda is "still very active" means "still on the payroll"
The neo-con bastards are at a rock and a very hard place. And I believe the American public are just about to their bullshit threshhold.

The neocon scourge and their familiars very much need that second "Pearl Harbor-like" incident to ramp up the fear quotient so they can continue their rape and pillage of the citizenry as camouflaged as possible. In addition, the military/industrial complex needs more raw materials (our kids) and more of the nation's wealth.

And another:

It's the first time in my career as a CIA officer, that I received a direct order to have someone killed.

Right, it's as hard to believe as the get bin Laden bullshit story that the CIA put out this morning.

Cheney spouts off this complete horseshit and the press reports it like it was real or something, instead of the obtuse black humor that it most certainly is. When was that last time ANYTHING cheney said that turned out to contain even the smallest grain of truth?

See the harrowing article in the current issue of Harper's, "Feeling The Hate With The National Religious Broadcasters."

These cultural-political totalitarians are the real danger. Not a scrubby tiny cult of terrorists who got lucky thanks to the greed of the US airline industry.

36. Don't worry.
The rest of Dumberica is finally waking up to what we knew all along: That there's actually more evidence of El Presidente Cheney having a hand in 9/11 than Saddam did. That this whole 9/11 thing smells like a dying empire-created "Pearl Harbor". That the actual "War on Terror" has yet to, and never will, start. And that Cheney and the rest of this stench-ridden administration drags the invisible boogeyman known as Albert Qaeda and Osama Bin Goldstein whenever they deem it fit.

For instance, when a certain Bunnypanties' poll numbers and support plunge like mad.

48. Apparently either Cheney or Robertson isn't in 'the loop'...
as far as communications go, as Cheney is saying "Al Qaeda is still 'very active'", and Robertson is saying "I think we have controlled Al Qaeda" the 700 Club host said, but warned of "erosion at home" and said judges were creating a "tyranny of oligarchy." (link: http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/305721p-261517c.html)

Maybe Cheney has been in that bunker and hasn't been informed that its the judges NOT Al Qaeda that we should be worried about? :sarcasm:

49. oh Big Daddy Cheney, pleeease protect me
One would assume that people reading that Al Qaeda is still "very active" might view such a statement as an admission of failure from the junta. After all, wouldn't the billions spent on their vaunted war on terror perhaps make Al Qaeda just a little less active? Why are they "very active" after all of their posturing and looting?

Perhaps they'd be less "active" if we'd secured Afghanistan - a subject the press never talks about - rather than going yippy-skippy into the Empire of Iraq.
