BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Insurgents unleashed a series of car bombings and other attacks across Iraq on Friday, killing at least 41 people, including three U.S. soldiers, and wounding dozens of people a day after the country's first democratically elected government was approved.

Iraq's most-wanted terrorist, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, purportedly threatened more violence in an audiotape on the Internet, warning President Bush the insurgents "will not rest until we avenge our dignity."

At least 11 car bombs exploded in and around Baghdad on Friday, including four suicide attacks in quick succession in the Azamiyah section of central Baghdad.

I can't imagine what things would be like if we weren't making such good progress over there.:eyes:

1. Wow! That's some "really good progress"!
:sarcasm:

OMG this continuation of devastation and death and destruction is just more and more horrible.

I know that I have to figure out how to not go insane every time I read these news stories, but it just keeps getting harder.

I weep for my lost country and all of the lives that it is destroying.

The lack of more conventional fireworks forces them to use car bombs instead - nothing to see here.

6. Our government's take on Iraq? "really good progress" & "we're winning"
From our Propagandist:

I believe we're making really good progress in Iraq, because the Iraqi people are beginning to see the benefits of a free society.

From Gen. Myers:
"Almost any indicator you look at, the trends are up," Gen. Myers said. "So we're definitely winning."

So our troops and innocent civilians getting killed in Iraq don't really count !

Thank you Bush, for getting more people killed "over there", and, last time I checked, getting more people killed HERE.

Insurgents Unleash 17 Bombs in Iraq, Killing at Least 50 in Attempt to Shake Government

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Insurgents set off at least 17 bombs in Iraq on Friday, killing at least 50 people, including three U.S. soldiers, in a series of attacks aimed at shaking Iraq's newly formed government. An audio tape by one of America's most-wanted insurgents, Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi, warned President Bush there was more bloodshed to come.

The well-coordinated attacks, which also wounded 114 Iraqis and seven Americans, came as political leaders are trying to curb the insurgency by including all of Iraq's main religious and ethnic groups into an uncertain new Shiite-dominated government that takes office Tuesday. Most of the bombing targets were Iraqi security forces and police, whom insurgents accuse of collaborating with the Americans.

An association of Sunni Muslim clerics believed to have links with the insurgency, saw little prospect for peace as long as U.S. forces remain in Iraq.

"We don't believe that the government will solve the problems of an occupied Iraq. We don't trust the government," Harith al-Dhari, head of the Association of Muslim Scholars, told Turkey's Anatolia news agency. "We don't see hope because the occupation is continuing."

More catastrophic success as Rumsfeld would say.

27. Time for a contest to find a word to replace "insurgents"....
...you think?

They "surged" and "surged" again and again.
Here's my dictionary's take on it:

insurgent

adj : in opposition to a civil authority or government n 1: a person who takes part in an armed rebellion against the constituted authority (especially in the hope of improving conditions) 2: a member of an irregular armed force that fights a stronger force by sabotage and harassment

Of course... I would be voting for freedom fighter, since the constituted authority is pure b.s.

32. IRAQ: At Least 50 Killed in Bomb Blasts (121 Wounded)
At least 50 are killed in bomb blasts

By Thomas Wagner, Associated Press  |  April 30, 2005

BAGHDAD-- Insurgents set off at least 17 bombs in Iraq yesterday, killing at least 50 people, including three US soldiers, in a series of attacks aimed at shaking Iraq's newly formed government.

An audiotape by one of America's most-wanted insurgents, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, warned President Bush there was more bloodshed to come.

The well-coordinated attacks, which also wounded 114 Iraqis and seven Americans, occurred as political leaders are trying to curb the insurgency by including all of Iraq's main religious and ethnic groups into an uncertain new Shi'ite-dominated government that takes office Tuesday. Most of the bombing targets were Iraqi security forces and police, whom insurgents accuse of collaborating with the Americans.

US officials had hoped the new Cabinet approved Thursday would help dent support for the militants within the Sunni Arab minority that dominated under ousted leader Saddam Hussein and is now believed to be driving the insurgency. However, the lineup excludes Sunnis from meaningful positions and leaves the key defense ministry in temporary hands.

34. What exactly is the definition of a 'civil war'?
Edited on Sat Apr-30-05 10:24 PM by Barkley
Iraq is at war with itself and we're in the middle of it.

Our continued presence in that country is the primary source of
instability.

Our occupation is costing American lives daily. We're spending $4 - $5 billion a month on Iraq and the unemployment rate is 70%.

Our troops dig landfils in seach of metal to protect their vehicles.

The Iraqis of all political stripes want us to leave.

I think we should make an exit strategy and

BRING THE TROOPS HOME NOW!
