Ill. Student Charged With Racist Threats
By MIKE COLIAS, Associated Press Writer

Tuesday, April 26, 2005

(04-26) 11:41 PDT BANNOCKBURN, Ill. (AP) --

A black college student was charged with a hate crime Tuesday for allegedly mailing racist threats to fellow minorities on campus, apparently because she was homesick and wanted to convince her parents the school was dangerous, authorities said.

The hate mail at 3,300-student Trinity International University spread fear among blacks and Hispanics on campus and prompted authorities at the Christian school to move more than 40 minorities out of their dormitories and into a hotel last week.

Alicia Hardin, 19, of Chicago was charged with disorderly conduct and a hate crime. The hate crime charge carries up to five years in prison.

She confessed to police on Monday, saying she was unhappy at Trinity and wanted to leave, said Lt. Ron Price.

1. i can't believe they only evacuated the minority students
i guess it made perfect sense to them that a homocidal maniac would only kill minority students, and if you were white, you would be fine.

9. Where in the article?
The one instance she cites of a white woman being harassed turned out to be a rumor.

2. Do kids today have any commonsense at all!?
I'm homesick so I decide to right racists letters and scare everyone on the campus instead of just talking to my parents.

4. Homesick???
One of the greatest things about going to college was getting the hell out of my worthless little rumor-mill of a hometown. I can't imagine someone actually wanting to live with their parents all over again. Maybe if you HAVE to because you can't find a job after graduation?...

I blame Spongebob.

7. She knows that hate and fear work. It's what this adults in charge have
taught us. This incident and that suicide of Claxton is a sad, sad commentary on what this nation has become. And they are indications that things are only going to get worse before they get better. There is no social conscience leadership in our government or in our churches and schools have been hopeless for a long time.
