Napolitano vetoes bill to allow guns in bars
Napolitano vetoes bill to allow guns in bars

Associated Press
Apr. 25, 2005 06:03 PM

Gov. Janet Napolitano vetoed a bill Monday that would have allowed people to carry guns in bars and restaurants if they weren't drinking alcohol and if the businesses didn't ban them from doing it.

A top aide to Napolitano confirmed the veto, which was expected, after notifying the bill's legislative sponsor.

The National Rifle Association-backed bill (SB1363) would have rewritten an Arizona law that bans possession of firearms in bars and restaurants that sell alcohol. advertisement

The Republican-led Legislature completed action on the bill April 18 with a 17-12 Senate vote, sending the bill to Napolitano, a Democrat. The House approved the bill (SB1363) April 12.

2. How nutty can you get.?
So, as long as the person carrying the gun into the bar or restaurant isn't drinking alcohol, the gun can go in. But, how can anyone be sure the gun will remain in the possession of the person who is not drinking once in the bar or restaurant. What is to prevent some overbearing sloppy drunk slob from grabbing the gun and shooting someone.

I heard some years ago that about 50% of murders involved alcohol one way or another. Is this supposed to be some form of birth control. Isn't life exciting enough for these guys without making bars and restaurants into war game backdrops?

7. Those carrying a gun in a bar
could be drinking before they entered the bar. No need to buy a drink, these nuts probably already had a few too many.

8. It may not be the dumbest bill to be proposed in AZ
But it is certainly one of the dumbest that has ever been sent to the Governor.
