A Scathing Chairman Dean Finds Republicans 'Evil,' 'Corrupt' and 'Brain-Dead'

By Brian Faler

Monday, April 25, 2005; Page A06

Howard Dean may not be running for anything, but his elbows appear to be as sharp as ever.

-snip-
Dean has suggested that they are "evil." That they are "corrupt." He called them "brain-dead" during a stop in Toronto -- and while the Terri Schiavo case was still in the news. He has tagged Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) as a "liar." Last week, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that he mimicked a "drug-snorting Rush Limbaugh" at an event there.

Dean was noted for his candid and often unpredictable comments during his campaign last year. Then, as now, many Democrats said they don't mind the former Vermont governor's bluntness.

"You don't want a wallflower for a party chairman," one Senate Democratic aide said. Dean's remarks have not attracted much attention in the national media, in part because he has focused largely on local and regional news outlets since taking the party's helm in February

48. If the truth fits.... put the shoe on.
Isn't it EVIL to lie, turn your back on the poor, torture innocent people and kill in God's name?

Isn't it CORRUPT to plant a reporter in the White House whose only purpose is to be as easy as possible? Or to feed press releases to the public as if they were news? Or to push through nominations of people unfit for the job they are being asked to do? Or to change the ETHICS rules in the middle of an investigation on a major offender?

Isn't it brain-dead when the pres can't even define the concept of the Sovereignty of the Indian Nation? Or when Condi Rice can't grasp the concept that not telling the truth impunes her own integrity?

14. In all fairness, they are not "official" party spokesmen
although they might as well be.

I suspect this batch of statements, like so many other things, will be twisted for use against Dean in the vilest way possible by the very people he's taking to task. The project of the GOP strategists wrt Dean will be to break him, to rope him into delivering the same flacid, lifeless leadership we've come to expect from the DNC. Failing that, they will destroy him politically or arrange a suitable traveling accident.

Thanks for the heads-up. Am I safe in assuming the DLC are those "in-side" beltway folks? If so, comprehend completely!

That is why we need Dean to speak for everyone, plain & simple and as harsh as words might sound, whatever. He has what the Dem's lacked - SPINE!

Edited on Mon Apr-25-05 12:06 PM by Zorra
Everything they do is bought and paid for by big business.

Republicans are primarily motivated by greed, hate, and lust for power.

This comes as a shock to some people?

21. Trickle up from the WaTimes last week
The spin there is more negative, of course...

'Positive' Dean calls GOP 'brain dead'
Howard Dean, who promised to change the way Democrats speak about the issues, has accused Republicans of being "evil," "corrupt" and "brain dead," attacks that are reminiscent of the angry language he used against the Republican Party in the 2004 campaign.

23. I don't like the use of the word "evil", but everything else is true.
It's getting to the point where naval lint is "evil". I think it's counterproductive.

But Santorum is a bald-faced LIAR.

Limbaugh is a JUNKIE.

"Brain-dead" might be poor taste, but not untrue.

The Chairman isn't a politician or a diplomat, so go on Howard! Tell it like it is.

34. Sadly, the WP is probably the best of the major newspapers
Last year, after being a subscriber for 28 years, I quit the Post - mainly in disgust over their Michael Kelly op-ed pieces which were nothing more than hate-filled liberal bashing for our refusal to support the Iraq War. Kelly, of course, was killed over there.

In the past year, however, they have taken the lead in criticizing this administration and going after DeLay and Frist, etc. I may resubscribe soon.

RWers still dominate the editorial pages, but the reporting on other pages is still better than at most other papers I've read, for what that's worth. I just wish they would dig deeper and that their bosses were truer to the Graham tradition.

Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) as a "liar." Last week, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that he mimicked a "drug-snorting Rush Limbaugh" at an event there.

And the point is? Did he lie? No. Did he distort the truth. No. Are the Republicans evil, corrupt, brain-dead? Damn Right! Is Santorum a liar? Yup. And mimicking Limbaugh as a drug-snorting dork is merely fighting fire with fire. Limbaugh is fair game after all the evil lies he's told about Democrats.

GO HOWARD!
