Pope reappoints Vatican old guard
BBC

Pope Benedict XVI has reappointed Cardinal Angelo Sodano as secretary of state, returning him to the role of the Vatican's second in command.

Other senior officials also retained their jobs as the new Pontiff opted to largely keep the same administration as his predecessor Pope John Paul II.

Experts say the decision is a sign that Benedict XVI wants to continue much in the vein of the late Pope.

One role still vacant is the new Pope's old job as the guardian of orthodoxy.

3. Is Cardinal Kaspar still in there?
He and Papa Benedict were pretty much in open warfare at times in the past few years.

4. Pope Benedict XVI elected in landslide
Thursday, April 21, 2005. 11:38pm (AEST)
Pope Benedict XVI elected in landslide

Pope Benedict XVI was elected by an overwhelming majority of his fellow cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church, possibly rallying an impressive 100 out of 115 votes, Italy's La Repubblica has reported.

The exact number of votes in favour of Joseph Ratzinger will likely never be known, as records of the four ballots of this week's conclave have been sealed and can only be opened upon order of the pontiff himself.

But citing Vatican sources, La Repubblica said the German-born Pope won the support of far more cardinals than the strict two-thirds majority needed to be elected.

Pope Benedict was a favourite from the very first round of voting, the daily's respected Vatican expert Marco Politi reported, adding that the number of his supporters increased at each round.

LANDSLIDE???? That's the name of the FBI/Interpol investigation into pedophiles using the interbet.

When Poodle first went to visit Shrub in Jan 2001, Junior's first reported words were "Hallo Landslide"!

5. I understood the Americans were going to actively oppose him
but maybe that's mistaken. I think there are 11 voting American Cardinals.

I think the ghost of JPII is what carried the day.

Feh!

10. Is there an Opus Dei cardinal yet?
If so, he'll get it, I betcha. If not, the Rat will appoint one so he can be Chief Inquisitor. You betcha!
