Chile and Venezuela sign oil deals
Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his Venezuelan counterpart, Hugo Chávez, signed a series of oil and cooperation agreements yesterday while deepening political ties.

Lagos made a ceremonial stop at the tomb of South American independence hero Simon Bolivar, and unveiled busts of Chilean poets Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral in one plaza of downtown Caracas, before heading to Miraflores Presidential Palace to sign the accords.

After signing the agreements, Lagos said that both countries need to establish policies aimed at bring about social equality through regional economic growth and ‘‘more realistic and efficient’’ integration.
‘‘That’s how we can create a new hemispheric reality,’’ he said.

Chávez gave Lagos a replica of Bolivar’s sword, prompting an applause from government officials from both countries, before he thanked the Chilean president for cooperating with Venezuela and joining efforts toward Latin American economic and political integration.

2. Yeah, having a US Army/Marine Corps 50% comprised of Mexican Nationals
might come in handy in communicating "democracy" via the Spanish language and a big ol' can of whoopass.

I look for DimSon to strike a deal with Vicente Fox anytime now for export of their citizens into our military. <hyperbole>

8. Well, that makes me wonder what Dumbya will do to get his slick
greasy hands on it. Maybe he'll give back Texas to get a few billion barrels. I'm not too crazy about that as I live in South Texas.

5. Me too, Dem.
I would really like to see a united south America & Central America, and BeelzeBush might just be the one to do it.

As their leader, I see Hugo Chavez, daring to go where Angels Fear to Tread, simply because he has the oil.

As the US watches its power dissipate and the world reorganize, contrary to its own hegemonic interests, it slowly realizes that all the assets needed for its survival are elsewhere.

It's got to be absolutely maddening for the Neo-Neanderthals in Washington, to see that the oil it needs to perpetuate its chokehold over the world is in other countries. Hostile ones, at that. An unbelievable, ironic joke Mr. God is playing on Bush.

What a setup for a severely dysfunctional crew, as the worms crawl in their brains.

6. I have mixed emotions about this, but mostly glee
I am all for the strengthening of these relationships, but I fear what will happen to these nations. Between this and the news about the FTAA being taken off the agenda in Brazil ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x1411083 ) I am so afraid that bushco shall bestow it's wrath upon S. America in some horrible way - military, economic, social, political, or whatever...

But strength and safety in numbers, so I say POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

7. Notice that this deal is a trade not tied to the US dollar
Venezuela sends Chili crude, Chile refines it for Venezuela, keeps some and sends the rest off to Venezuela's trading partners.

This is the same kind of non US dollar trade deal Venezuela has with Cuba, Venezuela sends Cuba refined crude in exchange for medical help and education. Trade not tied to the US dollar.

Most of the deals Venezuela has been making has not been tied to the US dollar, but are trade exchanges.

Interesting, very interesting.
