Lobbyist Gave DeLay a Skybox for Donors
Lobbyist Gave DeLay a Skybox for Donors

By SUZANNE GAMBOA
The Associated Press
Wednesday, April 20, 2005; 2:31 PM

WASHINGTON - House Majority Leader Tom DeLay treated his political donors to a bird's-eye view of a Three Tenors concert from an arena skybox leased by a lobbyist now under criminal investigation.

DeLay's political action committee did not reimburse lobbyist Jack Abramoff for the May 2000 use of the skybox, instead treating it as a type of donation that didn't have to be disclosed to election regulators at the time.

The skybox donation, valued at thousands of dollars, came three weeks before DeLay also accepted a trip to Europe - including golf with Abramoff at the world-famous St. Andrews course - for himself, his wife and aides that was underwritten by some of the lobbyist's clients.

Two months after the concert and trip, DeLay voted against gambling legislation opposed by some of Abramoff's Indian tribe clients.

2. The longer he stays around...
the more will be dug up about this corrupt SOB.
And the more Bush and his minions say he's a good leader, the worse it makes them look.

I only hope he pulls people down with him when he goes back to killing bugs

5. In a skybox at a Three Tenors concert?
Not very "red state" is it. I thought this was the kind of thing that only liberal elitists are supposed to do? Next think you know they'll be telling us he drove there in a Volvo while drinking a latte.

8. Have you read Tom Wolfe's "A Man in Full"?
Quite an entertaining section about all the rich southern yokels attempting to bring northern "culture" to Atlanta.

16. I tried to read it, but couldn't get through it
I read almost halfway and gave up. I really hated all the dialect he wrote in. It's not that I don't like Wolfe -- I loved "Bonfire of the Vanities" and I just read "I Am Charlotte Simmons" and enjoyed that. Maybe someday I'll try to finish "A Man in Full," but, again, I really was having a hard time with it.

19. Yeah...
I love Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, but A Man in Full was pretty silly. I just love those bits about the Real Estate Asset Management (REAM) folks and the dead plant in the corner when they come to get Charlie's money.

(To a reporter, trying to paint him a California elitist. Instead, reveals himself as an idiot.)

Shrub really said that? I guess Laura and the Quaker Oats woman only served chunks of Velveeta at their soirees.

6. May 2000? Clinton still President?
That's an easy enough explanation. And of course the evil, liberal Washington Post has to twist this story to make it sound like there's really something wrong with tom and jack doing business. Why don't you fucking liberals leave the lil guy alone.

this is all a DEM conspiracy. We are just trying to bring this wonderful man down, pure and simple. You should go hide and stop revealing all of his secrets.

Keep it up until his butt is canned for good. :bounce:

Has anyone noticed that Neal Boortz and Sean Hannity are biting into the repugs as well as us, but more us of course?

Neal said the other day that the republican party had nothing left for him and Hannity was bitching about all the illegals in the country, but blaming the DEMS mostly, but also giving scathing rebukes of the conservatives. I love it! They are running scared. I thought the big shot in the White House was in favor of the cheap labor from Mexico. Am I behind times?

According to Doonesbury: http://www.doonesbury.com/strip/dailydose/index.html

The last three days have been doing this sort of a media hype on Terry Shiavo parity.

18. Jack Abramoff............
how many times must this guy's name be brought up before other Congressmen (repug and dem) begin to question their 'relationship'? Abramoff seems to be in a lock-step every time we hear about Delay lately. Why not just say lobbying/bribery and let the vultures circle?

20. It is DANGEROUS for Dem politicians to push too much on this issue
Stick to the truly daming facts like foreign nations basically essentially paying for trips through their tool Abramoff.
This skybox deal is common practice in Washington and if Dems go after this too hard, they'll be brought up to look like hypocrites!!!

Must tread lightly on this issue - theres plenty of actual ethic violations in Delay's dossier dont go grasping at straws.
