18 Arrested at UC Santa Cruz Protest
SANTA CRUZ (BCN) -- At least 18 protesters were arrested Monday night while participating in a demonstration against school budget cuts and tuition hikes, a spokeswoman for the University of California, Santa Cruz reported today. <snip>

Protesters claim police "stormed" the demonstration site with little warning from the school administrators.

Students reportedly began assembling Monday afternoon as part of Tent University, a symposium organized to discuss democratic and social issues. Similar events were held simultaneously at Rutgers University and the University of Missouri. <snip>

3. Agreed
They have to learn how to fight government oppression effectively. I imagine with Bush, they will sophisticate themselves considerably.

6. Good to see that the Fighting Banana Slugs haven't changed
That has to be the most progressive city in the US, if you count the number of activists on the city council as a yardstick.

Not to mention some of the most beautiful US coastline

and killer sunsets

the most beautiful campus in the country, even after 20 years of shortsighted destruction. When I first toured it, you could drive the whole place and scarcely see any buildings. The ivory tower R&D slave trade needs to be demolished along with the rest of the military industrial intelligence complex that harnesses us all.
I think I remember when that Natural Bridge in the photo above was complete. Cant remember if it was storms or earthquakes or what knocked it down? Cant remember too much at all, actually :P

8. U got it wrong
I wasn't being sarcastic...SC is one of the most unique places in the USA. Abundant beauty, awesome weird/spooky vibes and, like I said, full of progressives.

The bridge fell on its own IIRC.

9. I didnt think you were, and I wasnt
its subtle hyperbole, not a challenge or put down. Peace out, thanks for reminding me about the fallen bridge, that rings a bell.

10. Why has the footage of the police brutality not been released.
Edited on Thu Apr-21-05 01:44 PM by izzybeans
SEe for yourself. This is the most disguting case of police brutality I have seen. I attended the sister rally at Rutgers University and just saw what I think is the below video. I can't access it at the moment. I hope its the right one. I'm absolutely disgusted that this happens in our country.

Please keep kicked and disseminate.

11. The video is certainly horrible, but take a look back at Chicago 1968
to see how bad it really can get.

This particular demonstration is very reminiscent of those in the NYC campuses of CUNY in '69 and '70. :sigh: I know...I was there.

It'll probably get a lot uglier than this video before it's over.
