Rove decries media approach to government
Oh...ok...FUCKFACE.

Rove decries media approach to government

By STEPHEN MANNING
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- The media have started applying the horse race style of campaign coverage to daily reporting on government, leading to adversarial reporting that can obscure the truth just to create conflict, President Bush's chief political strategist said Monday.

Speaking at a forum at Washington College, Karl Rove said the influx of media outlets and the shrinking shelf life of news in a 24-hour news cycle are to blame.

"We are substituting the shrill and rapid call of the track announcer for calm judgment, fact and substance," Rove told the crowd of roughly 600 students and local residents.

Naming specific reporters and news organizations, Rove said the media unfairly created the impression that President Bush's No Child Left Behind Act, introduced early in his first term, was stalled in Congress at every step before its passage.

1. OH! I see, Karl. If the media is not spewing your ideas it all bad!
All was just fine when all the media was spewing Shrub's crap as good, and is lies as fact, but when a few reporters actually start to question tactics and ethics, suddenly they're bad, bad biased media outlets!

8. This is calculated. Rove's intent is to discredit media so thoroughly and
so entirely that no one will expect it to have any credibility whatsoever. If the people are taught to have automatic contempt for the Fourth Estate, they will cease looking to it for truth, and then they will have only the government as their source. This is Rove's goal. To create an eventual unquestioning adherence to whatever it is the government wants to say.

16. The media is not yet a monolith. There are pockets of resistance.
But if he succeeds in instilling doubt in all of us, for all of it--all news sources in the media, newspapers & magazines as well as TV & radio--he will be the winner, not us. Better to champion the honest sources of news, and encourage them, rather than throw the baby out with the bathwater. Be careful what you wish for.

19. Paul Krugman; Sydney Blumenthal; Frank Rich; Keith Olbermann;
Trudy Rubin; AAR and Pacifica Radio; Michael Kinsley; Bill Moyers; Molly Ivins; James Wolcott; Gore Vidal; David Brock. The editorial pages of many newspapers of various circulation sizes acoss the country who routinely comment critically on this administration, whose pieces are pointed out regularly here at DU. My own Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News. The little newspaper in Crawford Texas. The weeklies such as The Nation, Progressive Magazine & Mother Jones. For example.

It would be better to trumpet those sources & encourage them, rather than to feel somehow triumphant that they will be silenced through Rove's blanket discrediting of all media.

23. That's the spirit, dbt.
Kill all the small things, and the young things, because they're not big & strong now. Don't bother to nourish them. Show contempt to them because they are weak. Then maybe when they die something really great will spring up that will be better!

Quite a philosophy you have there!

13. that will definitely not work
as then people will start looking at what is happening in their personal lives and get a clue really quickly.

The ones that don't tune into the news are actually the most cognizant of the lies of this government (jmho and personal observations)

17. So you think knowledge is gained by less dissemination of it?
People are more clued in to the lives of their fellow citizens around the country by focusing only on their own? They somehow gain more sophistication & awareness by in essence staying close to the village their whole lives? That's a very peculiar concept.

21. I don't mean to say that they "stay close to the village"
as the people I was referring to (just my personal observations) were fellow travelers - who struck up a conversation with me regarding the political atmosphere of our country.

I asked where they got their news, newspapers, television, radio, internet - and I was told that they subscribed to no paper, didn't watch tv, didn't listen to the radio and were not connected to the net.

They were telling me what was going on in their lives, in their towns, in their expanded families.

They were a lot more informed and informative than any FAUX or Limpbag crowd.

11. Oh this is RICH!!!
Of his boss, Rove said the idea that Bush is not an intellectual is incorrect, citing his Ivy League education and saying "there's always a book on his night stand."

"He's one of the most intelligent, curious, intellectually tough people I know, yet the country misunderestimates him continually," Rove said, playing on one of Bush's more memorable verbal gaffes.

"misunderestimates"?

:eyes:

I bet that book is The Pet Goat as a nice LIHOP reminder.
