Dean goes to heart of GOP
Dean goes to heart of GOP

In his first visit to the state since becoming Democratic chairman,

Howard Dean visits Collier County.

By ADAM C. SMITH, Times Political Editor

NAPLES - You seldom see big name Democrats campaigning in Collier County.

Why bother, many politicians reason, when Republicans always win big in this conservative stronghold, where fewer than one-in-four voters are Democrats?

It's time to change that, Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean told nearly 500 southwest Florida Democrats on Monday night.

"The first rule in winning is to show up - show up, say who you are, say what you stand for," he declared.

1. Just like in certain sports, you can't score a goal or a basket
if you don't shoot

Showing up is have the battle. We've been conceding areas for too long.

Anyone getting involved in Democratic Party politics better get used to one word: WORK

2. I love this line from Howard
"We need to kick the money changers out of the temple and restore moral values to America," Dean said, drawing roars from the crowd.

Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 08:04 AM by bushisanidiot
now is the time to go after those voters..

the economy is tanking, gas prices are DOUBLE what they were when democrats were in charge, and there is no end in sight to AWOL Bush's fake war in Iraq.

Fear of gay marriage won't keep all the repuke voters in line for much longer.. the dam's gonna break in the next year or two.

12. It's a fact
There are way too many gay people out there for them to keep portraying gays as freakish threats. My great aunt, who is a WWII generation republican, has nothing but good things to say about the gay people at our church, which surprised me.

Most gays are quiet, normal people (just like most straights) and I just can't see the republicans keeping people motivated by homophobia when there are so many other pressing concerns in the country.

I like the montage. Have you seen the pic of shrub dropping barney?

6. He's damn sure saying what I like to hear and making a lot of noise
doing it. We democrats owe a lot to Howard and I don't think he's really got started yet, very passionate.

8. Honest Republicans are ripe and ready to listen to what Dean has to say
Hearing that a cousin-in-law from Ohio, who comes from a long-time family of Republicans, who was not willing to listen or accept anything other than what Georgie/Rove put out, that they were extremely disheartened by what is happening to their Party. She really was depressed and apparently her entire family have been doing a lot of talking about what has been happening with Iraq, military benefits and actual support, Tom DeLay, social security, and the election process in Ohio (her State), etc.
Although many of us had made attempts to discuss the reality of the Bush Administration, she adamantly refused to accept our opinions. It sounded like she was waking from a deep sleep and did not know what to do with her nightmare.

After listening to Christy Todd Whitman, talk about her party, and listening to the Republican cousin, you just know that there are millions of True Republicans that want to take their party back and they are now ready and willing to listen to Dean, because he tells it like it is.

If all these Republican areas had to listen to 24/7 is Rush Limbaugh, Jerry Falwell, etc., they have been systematically been brainwashed just as a cult does. Now these little towns, cities, etc., are receiving the flag-drapped coffins back into their hometowns.....it's hitting close to home. They are ready to listen to Dean.

10. your inlaws in Central and/or Southern Ohio?
AM 1530 WCKY-Cinci's reach is pretty vast. Maybe they'll tune in and turn on, if only for some balance to the Rush/Jerry show.

9. He's just getting warmed up.
GAWD but I LOVE Howard Dean! He's saying all the correct things - and daring to do so behind enemy lines! He told us all on Saturday night to be bold and not to be afraid to speak out about what we believe. And he's doing that very thing himself.

He is also determined to help combat Republican suggestions that Democrats are out the mainstream, and intends to develop a simple, overriding definition of Democrat.

"We need a message where people from the Panhandle or Alabama are just as comfortable running as a Democrat as somebody from New York," said Dean, arguing that whether it's balancing budgets or improving access to children's health care, Democrats are more in tune with most Americans than Republicans.

"We need to kick the money changers out of the temple and restore moral values to America," Dean said, drawing roars from the crowd.
