US oil tankers explode in Afghanistan

ISN SECURITY WATCH (18/04/05) - US military officials on Monday said the explosion of a convoy of five oil tankers carrying fuel for US forces in Afghanistan was an accident, contradicting previous reports that the convoy was attacked by Taliban fighters.

On Sunday, news agencies reported that suspected Taliban members attack the oil tankers with a volley of rockets near the airport on the main highway connecting Kandahar with Chaman in southern Afghanistan.

Reports said the blast destroyed one of the trucks parked outside Kandahar airbase and caused four others to catch fire.

Three Pakistani truck drivers were injured in the incident.

local government. They laugh at their own stupidity when you point out that they approved developments that have water running up hill. Of course, it's all part of the show.

8. Well, not in my neighborhood they're not
I live across the street from a gas station where gas trucks deliver gas twice a week, and work at a site where gas trucks deliver gas biweekly. In the 15 years I've been here, not one gas truck has exploded, thankfully.

It's not something that 'just happens'.

12. There are only certain conditions that can cause a gas tanker to explode.
when filling the tanker or emptying, care must be taken to avoid open flames and static electricity. The other cause is an accident or being hit by something that ignites the gases. It is the fumes that is explosive, not the liquid gas.

I can't remember spontaneous ignition of a gas tanker. I do remember one burning on
I-75 after colliding with a car.

5. WTF?
"Supporters of the former Taliban authorities have said they carried out the attack. But on Monday, US military officials said the attack was an accident."

How can an attack be an accident? (unless, of course, we blew it up)

9. A report from Asia Times Online last week said that the Taliban
had regrouped and was planning to start "guerrilla attacks like the ones in Iraq" around June. As explained in the piece, instead of a lot of random hits, they would be concentrating on carrying out bigger, targeted strikes.

Boy, if this doesn't sound like an early start to all this......

10. "June earmarked for attacks in Kabul"
Your post intrigued me, so I searched for the article.
If it's the same one you read,
it says they have already started this,
and June is when they start attacking Kabul.

Some quotes from the article:

"Their initial targets are Khost, Ghazni, Kandahar and Jalalabad, with June earmarked for attacks in Kabul."

"For instance, a small group was assigned to disrupt oil supplies in Spin Boldak. They were specifically launched to hit that target, and when they achieved their goal they scattered to await the next assignment. Similarly, a group were assigned to blow up a helicopter in Ghazni. They were given maps, flight routines etc, and once they achieved their mission, they dispersed."

15. Are we at war with Eastasia or Eurasia? Let's ask Winston, he'll
know what the truth is today. Just the other day Secr. Rice said she thought Osama Bin Laden would be found. Don't worry so much about him for it looks as though the Taliban is back looking for us. I hadn't checked the Asia Times lately, so thanks for the link.
