WJZ-TV (Baltimore) Time Names O'Malley One of America's Best Mayors
Baltimore mayor and contender to unseat our despicable governor, Mean Bobby Ehrlich, was named one five "Best Big City Mayors in America by Time Magazine. Here's the story from Baltimore's WJZ TV (Ch 13):

NEW YORK (AP) -- Time magazine has named what it calls the "five
best big city mayors" in America, giving the distinction to New
York's Michael Bloomberg, Atlanta's Shirley Franklin, Baltimore's
Martin O'Malley, Chicago's Richard Daley and Denver's John
Hickenlooper.
Detroit's Kwame Kilpatrick, San Diego's Dick Murphy and
Philadelphia's John Street were dubbed the nation's three worst
mayors.
The lists appear in the issue of the magazine that hits
newsstands Monday. Neither list was ranked, and the mayors were
listed in alphabetical order. Gavin Newsom of San Francisco
received an honorable mention; No dishonorable mention was awarded.
The magazine praises O'Malley for urban innovations such as
CitiStat. That's a computerized score sheet intended to make key
city agencies like public works, housing, transportation and police
more accountable.
"We've moved from a traditional, spoils-based system of
patronage politics to a results-based system of performance
politics," O'Malley, 42, told the magazine.
The magazine said it consulted with "urban experts" who chose
from among the 29 mayors who lead cities with populations greater
than 500,000.

In a related story about O'Malley's run for governor, we have this from the same source:

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A new poll shows Baltimore Mayor Martin
O'Malley leading Governor Robert Ehrlich in a potential race for
governor.
The poll was conducted by Potomac Incorporated.
It shows O'Malley ahead of Ehrlich 45 percent to 39 percent with
a margin of error of three-point-two percentage points.
The survey of one thousand registered Maryland voters shows a
downward shift in the governor's job approval rating since January.
That's the last time Potomac Incorporated questioned likely voters
on state politics and issues.
The three-month period was dominated by news of an aide to the
governor spreading Internet rumors about O'Malley.

Marty is a good guy and real up and comer for the national scene in the years to come. He's 42.

2. I like Marty, too
I live in New York, but from time to time, I see articles on him and have always been impressed with his style. Fingers crossed that he edges out Ehrlich, and whoever replaces him as mayor will be more like him and not like Ehrlich.

3. He has a good chance to more than "edge" Ehrlich, I think. And his
successor in Baltimore will definitely be a Dem ... hell, O'Malley won by nearly 90% in the last go-round! If a dog were to run and wear a blue neck scarf as a sign he's Dem, he'd win there.

Other than Baltimore City and County, Prince Georges County and Montgomery County, the rest of Maryland is pretty damned purple. But I think O'Malley will win against Ehrlich.

4. I told you he was a rising star for Dems. That's why the RW machine is
after him. The governor's dirty tricks didn't work but watch out they are going to try something else. I pray all the best for him and his family.

5. I was in Baltimore today.
And I was very impressed. The city was clean. The cops looked good. Oriole Park was fantastic.

7. and the worst mayors...
The Baltimore Sun finished the story with this:

"According to Time, (the worst mayors) are Detroit's Kwame Kilpatrick, Philadelphia's John Street and San Diego's Dick Murphy."

I'm familiar with Dick Murphy. His first name is appropriate.
