Gingrich Sees Mrs. Clinton as Presidential Nominee in 2008
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich said Tuesday that he thought Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, the New York Democrat, would be her party's presidential nominee in 2008 and that she would be "very formidable." He said she might even win.
....
"Senator Clinton is very competent, very professional, very intelligently moving toward the center, very shrewdly and effectively serving on the Armed Services Committee - the first New Yorker to serve on the modern Armed Services Committee since it was created in 1948," he said.

"And I think any Republican who thinks she's going to be easy to beat has a total amnesia about the history of the Clintons," Mr. Gingrich said, pairing her with her husband, former President Bill Clinton.

He said that Senator Clinton had "the smartest American politician as her adviser," and that in 2008, "barring something I can't imagine, she will be the nominee" for president.

Mr. Gingrich added: "If we don't prove that we have better solutions, that we're in touch with reality and that we're prepared to do things on the scale that the future requires, we will not be guaranteed of beating Hillary in a tactical race because they are, as a couple, that good tactically."

1. And, I think I'm tired of having Hillary foisted upon me.
I hope the rank and file Dems have learned NEVER to vote for who the Republicans and/or the corporate media want us to vote for.

14. this just solidifies that I believe Bill Clinton is hanging with the
Bushbots in some type of agreement for Hilary to run maybe even win. I's suspected this ever since Poppy and Clinton starting chumming together. Now, I am even more convinced that Bill worked out some kind of deal to make shrub more appealing to us by hanging with them, and they've agreed to let Hilary and Bill take over again. I like Bill, but financially, he is probably as involved as the idiot pretender in chief.

27. We can do far, far better than pro-war Hillary
You make a nice point: letting our enemies tell us who to run plays right into their hands.

Clintonism and the sorry philosophy of triangulation have hurt us as much as Bushism--by bombing our way to Iraq, granting the market supremacy over principles, abandoning our liberal values, undoing the social safety net, and diminishing privacy in numerous ways that paved the way for the Patriot Act.

Hillary is backward. We need to move forward.

35. Well, it's up to her....CLINTON CLARK 2008 would be supportable
Edited on Thu Apr-14-05 08:37 AM by Clark Bayh 2008
The odds of anyone beating Guiliani or McCain are long.
So if she wants to run I can live with it.
But we need a MASSIVE movement to ensure that Clark is VP.
How else can you push a ticket with commander in chief Hillary.

CLINTON CLARK 2008

10. As much as I like and respect the Clintons
she is not my choice for the nomination. I can't think of a single Democratic nominee who would do more to mobilize the moonbat, foam at the mouth right wing than her. She would bring people to the polls--the people who hate her. And if she did win, I'd really rather not rehash 4 or 8 more years of Clinton "scandal" accusations from Republicans. Trust me, if you think they were nasty to Bill for 8 years, the way they would treat Hillary would make their treatment of Bill look like mere "tough love". I couldn't stomach it.

I think a concerted effort should be made my Dems to foist Keyes on the RW whenever they suggest Hillary like this. Not only does it show the BS behind these stunts, it also makes it very clear that they are they party of 'crazy uncles' who escaped confinement from the attic of American politics.

13. Ha! The same Newt Gingrich...
...who tried to get a job in 2000 by saying that $hrub's campaign team "needed somebody with national experience on their team."

Man, do I wish they would have fallen for that one.

I don't think anybody pays any attention to this fool anymore. The Repubs can barely keep a straight face on the talk shows when he is referred to as a "GOP elder statesman."

That video footage from 1998 is still wonderful. You may remember that Newt invited a camera crew in to witness a crushing GOP victory in the offyear elections. Heh!

15. Why do articles like this even get written?
Edited on Wed Apr-13-05 10:12 PM by high density
I don't know what purpose it serves other than to foist crap Democratic candidates on us, not to mention that it seems so early to be thinking about 2008. Would the NY Times write a similar article if Howard Dean was fluffing up Tom DeLay to be the Republican presidential candidate? I kind of wish the few media whore Democrats that we seem to have (e.g. Biden, Lieberman) would start doing this same bullcrap to the Republican side... But since many of our media whores all seem to be the "Democrat Lite" (or even "Republican Lite") sort of people, I guess this probably isn't going to happen.

2008 issues will still be terrorism & foreign policy.
Putting Hillary up doesn't seem to make sense.
We need to go back to smokefree rooms with the dealmakers.

16. Actually for once Newt is telling the truth
She could very well be the nominee. At the convention last year when delegates were asked who they would favor in '08 if Kerry lost, Hillary Clinton was the top choice. In other polls she is the top choice. If she runs she will have a lot of support. Not me, I'm likely to go elsewhere, but she is formidable. Who knows? she might even win if the country has truly had enough of eight years of Bushism.

20. ONLY if the BBV machines take over the Dem primaries again.
In that case, the repukes will have whomever they want on the Dem ticket.

If enough people have gotten their state legislatures to OUTLAW secret, computerized vote counting machines, THEN will we see who the true Dem candidate will be.

If they haven't, we'll see who the repukes want to run.

Get ACTIVE, folks!! Join your state's group for VOTER VERIFIED PAPER BALLOTS, and make sure we start electing REAL Dem candidates!!

Phuck you, Newt.

36. Indeed.... but so many still seem happy to go down with Nader...
It's very discouraging... to see so many people who care about progressive politics feel that the dem is a turncoat if he/she tries to move to the center to actually get elected.

Politics today is life & death, war & peace. It isn't about making statements. Remember Vince Lombardi.

If there is a 3rd party candidate, Hillary could sneak in with Clark. But why would she want to take such a big risk?

Of course Newt is praising Hillary. The GOP desperately want her to be the nominee.

I can think of many better Democratic nominees than Hillary. I certainly don't want the GOP to tell us who should be our nominee, and my gut tells me it shouldn't be Sen. Clinton.
