Fla. House passes abortion clinic bill
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The House voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to tighten regulation of state clinics that perform second trimester abortions.

Supporters said the bill would enhance safety while opponents argued it would erode the constitutional right to abortion and could drive women to obtain the procedure illegally.

The 82-27 vote, largely along party lines, sent the legislation to the Senate, where a similar bill has cleared one committee and is pending in a second.

The bills spell out an array of regulations for the clinics, from rules about sterilizing equipment and training of employees to requirements for post-abortion care.
...
The legislation could force abortion providers to close their doors or raise prices, she said, adding that the motivation was not women's health but anti-abortion politics. But Rep. D. Alan Hays, a Republican, said stricter regulations are needed.

"This is not about women's rights, this is about women's health," he said. "A vote against this bill is a vote in favor of allowing abortions to be done in an environment that is no better than the dreaded alleyway abortion."

3. So, are they saying the clinics have been operating
Edited on Wed Apr-13-05 09:08 PM by Solly Mack
with substandard practices all these years?

Since they feel the need for stricter rules and regulations?

(Even though evidence shows the clinics have been top notch in services and care)

I smell bullshit wrapped in a "for the women" label

and gee, look at who's voting against it...and look who's voting in favor of it...(I'm just saying)

4. That is a standard tactic of the opposition
They frame themselves as the ones saving women from these terrible, substandard clinics. Putting the extensive details pertaining to the daily operations into law ensures that the mechanism of the legal system can be brought down on a clinic at any politically appropriate time.

What are the effective countertactics?

6. The best method is to stop it before it happens (I know, I know)
that's like getting angry at your already pregnant teen for not using birth control...it's a little beside the point now.

In situations like this, which have happened before, all you can do is make sure your operation is strictly by the book...not give them a single chance to close you down...but we both know they'll exploit every little thing until something sticks and they can close the clinics.

They'll "drop in" and upset the routine of the clinic...and then claim it's the clinics fault.

Do you have any ideas?

7. Tell the government to back off of abortion control
The women, as the consumer, can control the market. That is the true meaning of free enterprise without government regulation.

15. it is continuous chizzling away-the corrosive effect that is so
detramental to women's reproductive health that is the main problem. Overtunring Roe vs Wade is the outcome-not the dramatic of the SC doing this--but this creeping up, incidious tactics, new regulations, state by state that is doing it.

..Women, are we PSYCHED to going back to the good ol' days of being breeders? ......

13. I'm just waiting for the whacky moonbats to stand in front
of the abortion clinics that do somehow manage to stay open with guns shooting the women that enter...stating they were protecting the unborn babies by proxy from certain death.
You know it will happen.
