Poll: Bush losing Hispanic support
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP)

Hispanics increasingly are feeling betrayed by President Bush, creating a window of opportunity for the Democratic Party to gain votes from one of the most sought-after demographic groups, a Democratic analyst said Saturday.

Now is the time to appeal to disappointed Hispanic Bush supporters, said Sergio Bendixen, president of Bendixen and Associates, a Coral Gables, Fla.-based public opinion research company that specializes in the Hispanic market. Bendixen spoke on "The State of Hispanic America" at the Democratic National Committee's Hispanic Leadership Summit here.

He also presented the results of a New
Democratic Network poll, which found Bush has hurt his credibility among Hispanic voters because Bendixen said he has not kept his promise to work with Mexico's President Vicente Fox on immigration and by not fully funding public schools. ---

Hispanics consider increasing funding for public schools the most important way to improve education, the poll found. Three-quarters said it would "offend them a lot" if a politician pledged to improve education but failed to adequately fund schools once in office. And 68 percent believe the large federal budget deficit will make it difficult for the economy to improve.

4. Go figure
What in the heck were they promised to be Repubs anyway. Even if they don't want to vote Dem I just can't see going that route. Do they think because Jeb has a Mexican wife that they care about them. She is hid away from Society and is nothing but a programmed Bush family robot.

18. You're right, SharonAnn, That's why I believe Democrats should
stop running away from the issue and face it head on, as we do on our http://www.LiberalsLikeChrist.Org/ChristianChoice pages.

3. And as usual Dean is ahead on this
Running ads in Spanish.

Presidential hopeful Howard Dean (news - web sites) is reaching out to Hispanic leaders with a 30-second television ad airing in New Mexico this weekend during the Democratic National Committee (news - web sites)'s Hispanic summit.

"We're doing our first Spanish-language ads in Albuquerque," Dean said in an interview with The Associated Press. "It will be straight-on shots of me speaking Spanish."

The ad will be on the air about a week, said Tricia Enright, a Dean campaign spokeswoman.

Dean said Friday that reaching out to Hispanic elected leaders is important in building support for his campaign. The front-runner's rallies typically have attracted largely white crowds.

"The most important values in the Hispanic community are family, children, education and work," Dean says in the Spanish-language ad. "As governor, I created thousands of new jobs, we provided health insurance for all children and youth and a first-class education system."

6. bush* may have thought he was making inroads with Hispanics,
but he misunderestimated them. Hispanics love Bill Clinton, his affair with Monica did not do much damage to him. As a Hispanic woman, I know that many Hispanics, especially men, did not think that affair had anything to do with his presidential duties. Just like much of America thought. But like most Americans, we do not like to be lied to about sending men and women off to war on a lie.

10. Do The Immigrants Being Granted Citizenship via the Army Get to Vote Yet?
They might appreciate the chance to become US citizens, but they might
be finding their side of the bargain not to be as-advertised.

13. And Democrats are responding.
At my state Democrat meeting last week, the (Democrat) governor met with representatives of the Latino community and made a lot of promises, which she likely will try to keep. She has already taken a lot of heat in the state by championing drivers licenses for undocumented workers.
